BEFORE YOU PROMPT, PAUSE.
Artificial intelligence requires more than technological skills. It requires empathy, critical thinking, and human judgment.
During his talk at BEBS, our Professor Arie Elbelman R., Community-Building Expert, invited us to reflect on a fundamental question:
How can we use AI to create meaningful value without losing sight of the people behind what we do?
This is where PAUSE comes in: before prompting, take a moment to think about the people behind your service, business, or activity.
Practice empathy. Identify your values, clarify your purpose, and activate your critical thinking before delegating a task to AI.
Because effective AI use begins long before the prompt itself.
The quality of the output depends not only on how we formulate our instructions, but also on the clarity of our objectives, the context we provide, and our ability to evaluate and challenge the results.
A well-crafted prompt is a powerful starting point, but human judgment is what turns an AI-generated response into something genuinely useful.
This human-centred perspective is also reflected in UNESCO’s Guidance for Generative AI in Education and Research, which advocates using AI to enhance human capabilities while safeguarding human agency, ethical responsibility, and meaningful learning.
At BEBS, we believe that the future belongs not simply to those who master new technologies, but to those who know how to use them thoughtfully, critically, and with empathy.
Before you prompt, pause.
Think about people.
Question your assumptions.
Define your purpose.
Then, and ONLY then, you may use AI to create value.
