Grup d'Anàlisis i Recerques Sobre Pintura i IConografia Tardoantiga i Altmedieval (ARS PICTA)

The history of Ars Picta as a research group starts in 1996 under the direction of Dr. Milagros Guardia. In 2005 obtained the recognition as a research group by the Generalitat of Catalonia. Ars Picta belongs to the Institute for Research in Medieval Culture (IRCVM) based at the University of Barcelona. Ars Picta focus is revealed by the acronym of its group name, the Analysis and Research on Late Antique and Early Medieval Painting and Iconography. At present and after much reflections arising from past projects, the group is working on defining a new methodological approach in the study of the set formed by architecture-decoration-furniture that aims to renew the research framework on Romanesque art. For this reason, Ars Picta is developing a tool aimed at both research and outreach to the Virtual Documentation Center of the Romanesque Art in Catalonia in order to catalogue not only the relevant material but the results of the research.
