Mario Corea delivered the keynote at the UIA-Public Health Seminar held during the UIA World Congress in Barcelona. His presentation focused on the “evolutionary hospital,” a concept that the practice has been developing to meet the challenges of rethinking, redefining, and readapting healthcare networks and spaces. Case studies from Argentina and Catalunya showed how innovative design can transform healthcare architecture, motivating ongoing advancement in the field.

Mario Corea fue el ponente principal en el seminario del Grupo de Salud Pública de la UIA, celebrado durante el Congreso Mundial de la UIA en Barcelona. Su presentación se centró en el “hospital evolutivo”, un concepto que la práctica ha estado desarrollando para responder a los desafíos de repensar, redefinir y readaptar las redes y espacios de atención sanitaria. Casos de estudio de Argentina y Cataluña demostraron cómo el diseño innovador puede transformar la arquitectura hospitalaria, impulsando el avance continuo en el campo.

Today is World Cancer Day, and we'd like to highlight Kàlida, which forms part of the Maggie's Centers network offering support for cancer patients and their families. We are grateful to architect Benedetta Tagliabue, who comes to the LA(H)B each year to share with our students the ideas behind this beautiful building, and the site visit afterward is one of the high points of our master. Hoy es el Día Mundial contra el Cáncer y nos gustaría destacar Kàlida, que forma parte de la red Maggie's Centers, que ofrece apoyo a los pacientes de cáncer y a sus familias. Agradecemos a la arquitecta Benedetta Tabliabue que cada año acude al LA(H)B para compartir con nuestros estudiantes las ideas que hay detrás de este precioso edificio, y la visita posterior es uno de los momentos más interesantes de nuestro máster.

Revisiting the site visits ... Our master's course "Healthcare Architecture for Now and the Future'' takes the idea of "learning by doing" to heart and an integral part of our program are the numerous visits to healthcare facilities in Catalunya. But first of all, we always visit the Barcelona Pavilion to learn onsite about the power of architecture to evoke a sense of peace and well-being, much needed in healthcare architecture and also in our very agitated world today.

Revisitando las visitas ... Nuestro máster "Arquitectura sanitaria presente y el futuro" se basa en la idea de "aprender haciendo" y una parte integral de nuestro programa son las numerosas visitas a instalaciones sanitarias de Catalunya. Pero primero, siempre visitamos el Pabellón de Barcelona para conocer in situ el poder de la arquitectura para evocar una sensación de paz y bienestar, muy necesaria en la arquitectura sanitaria y también en nuestro agitado mundo actual.

Y en eso consiste nuestro máster: estudiantes y profesores trabajando juntos para diseñar instalaciones sanitarias innovadoras centradas en el bienestar de las personas que las utilizan. ¡Y siempre hay momentos para celebrar en Barcelona!

De nuestro alumno Daniel Molineros sobre su proyecto de taller: "Los servicios críticos del hospital se desarrollan en la planta baja, que se puede acceder desde la calle inferior o desde la cubierta pública mediante una circulación externa mecánica que crea esta conexión."

From our student Daniel Molineros about his workshop project: "The critical services of the hospital are developed on the ground floor, which can be accessed from the lower street or from the public roof by means of an external mechanical circulation that creates this connection."

En su proyecto de taller para el Hospital de la Ciutadella, nuestro alumno Daniel Molineros explica: "En las plantas superiores de la torre del hospital se ubican el área de hospitalización, creando una conexión visual hacia la plaza que se crea para adaptarse al lugar rodeado de áreas verdes y espacios públicos".

In his workshop project for the Ciutadella Hospital our student Danial Molineros explains: "The inpatient department is located on the upper floors of the hospital tower, creating a visual connection with the plaza below, which is designed to blend in with the green areas and public spaces."

Aquí tenemos a nuestro alumno Daniel Molineros, graduado de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Cuenca de Ecuador. Su diseño para el hospital para la primera parte del máster se desarrolla a lo largo del solar aprovechando el desnivel y creando desde la calle superior una plaza de uso público, que lleva a la torre del hospital.

Here we have our student Daniel Molineros, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Universidad de Cuenca in Ecuador. His design for the hospital for the first part of the master's degree is developed along the site taking advantage of the slope and creating from the upper street a public plaza that leads to the hospital tower.

Alumni visit! It was wonderful to receive Yenny Carrillo in the LA(H)B today. She is a graduate of the first edition of "Hospital Architecture for Now and the Future," back in 2015 and is now working as an architect in Salou. We exchanged ideas about architecture and life as well as a few drawings.
