Smart Cities Master's Degree at University of Girona

The Smart Cities Master's Degree at Universitat de Girona will participate in the Do Smart City event to be held in Santiago de Chile from 18th to 20th of August 2016. Our director Peplluis De La Rosa will give a speech, encouraging South America students to join our Master. We will also look for more sister cities for our Master, Santiago de Chile, are you ready?

On 3 November representatives of Schiedam, the Netherlands, presented their smart city strategy to students and teaching staff of the Master's degree in Smart Cities. Every course the students enrolled in the master's degree develop practical projects aimed at solving challenges posed by a city active in the smart cities arena. Schiedam is the city involved in the current edition of the master's. Leonie Hulshof, Coordinator of European Affairs at the Municipality of Schiedam, and Stefanie Jacobs, officer in charge of the Smart City strategy, presented 14 challenges in areas such as smart data integration, waste management, and maximizing use of public parks by means of IT.

During the session, a video of Mr. Cor Lamers, Mayor of Schiedam, welcoming the students was projected and Mr. Carles Puigdemont, Mayor of Girona, signed a collaboration agreement between Girona, Schiedam and the University of Girona.

On 28 September the 2015 - 2016 edition of the UdG's Master's in Smart Cities began. Prof Josep Lluís de la Rosa, new Director of the Master's, welcomed the students, which come from several countries. De la Rosa informed that the third edition of the master's degree will place emphasis on internationalization and innovation. Thanks to an agreement with the city of Schiedam, the Netherlands, students' practical works will address several challenges defined in Schiedam's smart city strategy.
