📢 New Article 📢
We are pleased to announce that our colleagues Marcos Baena Molina, Ángel Palomares Caballero, Ginés Martínez García, Juan Elías Galeote Cazorla, Alejandro Ramírez-Arroyo and Juan Fco. Valenzuela Valdés have published a new article: 1-bit Mechanically Reconfigurable Metasurface as a Beam Splitter for Indoor Environments at 28 GHz.
In this work, a 1-bit Mechanical Reconfigurable Metasurface (MRM) for the 5G FR2 n257 band (26.5 GHz to 29.5 GHz) has been designed, fabricated, and measured. The MRM features an innovative mechanical reconfiguration process based on electromagnets, whose operating principle relies on the displacement of a conoidal element relative to the main structure of the MRM.
The prototype was manufactured using a low-cost process involving stereolithographic (SLA) 3-D printing and subsequent low-conductivity aerosol metallization. A good agreement was achieved between simulations and measurements, both in the macroscopic study of the RIS states and in the scattering patterns for different reflection angles.
To demonstrate the potential of the proposed MRM, an evaluation was carried out — later validated by simulation — in an indoor environment, providing simultaneous coverage in two different areas and achieving an improvement of more than 10.9 dB in the received power.
