With deep pain in our hearts, we received the news today that our friend and colleague Ahmed Elghobashy (Ghobsh) passed away this morning.
Ahmed visited us in 2017, as part of the exchange programme we have with the German University in Cairo (GUC), and from the very first moment he conquered our hearts with his kindness and joy. We have always considered him as one of our own and we have followed closely his battle against cancer, which unfortunately came to an end this morning. The members of the laboratory who shared so many moments with him and who tried to support him with all our strength mourn his absence. We also want to send our condolences and prayers to his family and friends. Ghobsh will always be remembered by the LSI, for the joy he always knew how to infuse in us, no matter how difficult the situation was, we will miss you friend.

Con profundo dolor en nuestro corazón hemos recibido hoy la noticia de que nuestro amigo y compañero Ahmed Elghobashy (Ghobsh) ha fallecido en la mañana de hoy.
Ahmed nos visitó en el año 2017, como parte del programa de intercambio que tenemos con la German University in Cairo (GUC), y desde el primer momento conquistó nuestros corazones con su bondad y alegría. Siempre le hemos considerado uno de los nuestros y hemos seguido muy de cerca su dura lucha contra el cancer, que por desgracia ha concluido esta mañana. Los miembros del laboratorio que compartimos con él tantos momentos y que intentamos apoyarle con todas nuestras fuerzas lloramos su ausencia. Desde aquí también queremos mandar nuestro apoyo y solidaridad a su familia y amigos. Ghobsh será siempre recordado por el LSI, por la alegría que siempre supo insuflarnos, no importaba lo difícil de la situación, te echaremos de menos amigo.

This September, at UC3M we will host the 2018 International Conference on Vehicle Electronics and Safety: https://www.icves2018.org/

We will talk about Autonomous Vehicles state of the art technologies, among other topics. The workshops and paper submission proposals are now open.

Last week, just before our vacation time, we received some news about the health of our friend Ghobsh.
He is one of the students we received form GUC university in El Cairo, who had to come back earlier this year for some health problems.
The family of LSI decided to join together just before the summer time to give strength and support to our mate.

We are proud to announce that the LSI team has qualified for the Second (and Final) Round of the Didi-Udacity Self-Driving Car Challenge 2017. https://www.udacity.com/didi-challenge

The developed algorithm has ranked 19th out of over 2,000 registered teams. It is able to perform both detection and tracking of several vehicles in 360º. Moreover, it operates in real-time (~10 FPS), thus being suitable for self-driving applications.
