Today we say goodbye to Frank Gehry, one of the most influential architects of our time.
From Bilbao to Los Angeles, his work showed how architecture can transform a city, its energy, and the way people see themselves in the world.
Gehry spent his life building with others: engineers, artists, institutions, and communities. He reminded us that we build better together when many minds and disciplines come around a shared vision.
His approach to education captured that spirit:
“The message I hope to have sent is just the example of being yourself. I tell this to my students: It’s not about copying me or my logic systems. It’s about allowing yourself to be yourself.”
At IE School of Architecture and Design, this message is at the heart of how we teach and learn: experimenting, collaborating, questioning norms, and daring to imagine new futures together.
Thank you, Frank Gehry, for the worlds you helped us see and for inspiring generations of architects and designers still to come. 🤍
