Advanced Courses in Economics - ACE

Advanced Courses in Economics - ACE Different courses will be presented under a common title of "ADVANCED COURSES IN ECONOMICS" (ACE).

The Department of Economic Analysis: Economic Theory and Economic History at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) plans to offer a series of modular workshops to address key methodological issues of interest for researchers in economics. Within this generic name, each year there will be specific courses that will take the form of a Continuing Education Course at the UAM. The courses will be ta

ught primarily in English, by a combination of local scholars from the UAM as well as invited professors from national and international leading institutions. These courses are offered to the graduate students from the UAM, as well as to all graduate students, researchers, young scholars and professional economists working in national and international institutions. The courses will be normally offered in 1 or 2 weeks, during the evenings (4-8 pm), at the UAM Economics and Business School.

PANEL DATA MODELS WITH STATA:
This course will be taught mainly by Badi H. Baltagi, considered as a world class expert in Panel Data Models, with a large experience in teaching and publishing scientific papers in some of the most remarkable journals in statistics and econometrics. The course will be also developed by a scholar from the UAM, Inmaculada Álvarez, who also accounts for a wide experience with the panel data models and the econometric analysis with STATA.

DSGE MODELS WITH MATLAB AND DYNARE:
The aim of this course is to provide the basic instruments in Matlab and Dynare for analysis and simulation of macroeconomic policies, with an empirical and “learning-by-doing” approach. At the end of the course, the student will be able to program and solve numerically the standard neo-Keynesian model of business cycles and to evaluate the effects of alternative economic policies. Class sections will be shared between James Costain and Carlos Thomas, macroeconomic researchers at the Bank of Spain, and Beatriz de Blas, from the UAM, who all specialize in using DSGE models for policy research.
