Kinda Floating
Led by: Julia Dragan and Anna Shishkina
What can random lifts give us? What can a blind choice of materials let us achieve? How can we design (and live) without a plan, taking every step of the way as an exciting part of the journey to the final destination which will be the beginning of the next one? In Benidorm we hope to continue what Sauna Hitchhikers have started in Estonia. A movement that finds joy in every step of the way.
We go where the waves take us.

What Happens in Benidrom Stays in Benidorm?!?!?!?!
Led by: Müge İrem Beyazıt (Müge), Edanur Seçim (Eda) and Ece Özsel (aka. ecowski_)
The tourists came for Benidorm and we came for the memories: “What Happens in Benidorm Stays in Benidorm?!?!?!??” focuses on the material and immaterial traces of mass tourism through collected memory objects.
The workshop approaches Benidorm as a living entity that hosts the seemingly endless influx of tourists and keeps unintentional records like a witness. It aims to analyse prominent consumer behaviours as they are reflected in these records. By collecting and inspecting tourists’ leftovers, we treat them as traces, and through analysing these traces left behind via the everyday movements, interactions & encounters of people and inanimate objects we hope to better understand Benidorm’s existence within the memory-space.

IKS, right?
Led by: Florian Van de Voorde and Işıl Yücel
We are the disciples of the [X]rite movement. Through ‘Politics of Rituals,’ we reimagine placemaking as a fluid, participatory process, where temporary interventions become transformative tools for shaping a city and enriching the human experience. We believe in the power of celebration as a catalyst for change. By turning mundane actions into festive rituals, we create opportunities for connection, creativity, and collective joy. We will try to activate different public spaces and celebrate its diverse cultural tapestry. We want to root locally in the urban fabric of Benidorm so that our approach could resonate globally.

Sombrilla (aka EASA Umbrella)
Led by: Andreea Samoilă, Jonne Van Roy, Tilman Levine and Elisav Bizău.
While an umbrella is often used to protect against rain, in Benidorm UMBRELLA will shield against the sun, becoming a sombrilla de playa. A modular, sun-shading & intellectually stimulating workshop with various locations (installation and a moving office), where input from the community is collected, and the output of the workshop is shared regularly. In the two weeks we will alternate between theoretical analysis of the topic of publication and practical application of journalistic work.
SOMBRILLA will produce collective pieces of literature under its’ shaded space, giving food for thought, facilitating discussions & connections on the topics of SHANZAI, Benidorm and EASA.

SWEAT: Yo no sudo, brillo
Led by: Angelo Ciccaglione and Diana Ferro.
In a sauna, people meet strangers and exchange stories while absorbing heat being naked and sweaty.
In this workshop we will bring the sauna to a step further: we will absorb heat, stories, gestures, words, objects, skills, dreams and sweat them out to other people and to the easians, re-enacting what we have learned. Also naked, why not.
We will learn how to live, how to breathe, how to make a kebab, how to embody old wisdom, how to tie shoes the proper way.
All you need is a fan, a towel and a body. A kebab stick, a drink, some snackies. Participants will develop a deeper perspective on what it means to operate within a complex identity such as the city and will gain skills to open their own kebab shop.

The Way In is not the Way Out
Led by: Monty Williams and Ke Zhang
‘The Way In Is Not The Way Out’ is a process-based workshop that involves exploring, recording, mapping, moving and copying from methods found in the ‘Do people like your feet?’ workshop (which in itself copies other past walking workshops).
Drawing from these more radical ways of experiencing place, we’ll add to past workshop processes by sharing our explorations in the form of emotional maps. Such maps may be analogue or digital, spontaneous or measured. As tutors we aim to share inspirations from our own practices and other artists.

The Treassure Map: (re)assembling spaces of interaction
Led by: Elisa Cordaro and Giovanni Telve
The aim of this workshop is to explore and map the intersections and connections between spaces used by different cultures that enrich Benidorm in the summer.
Defining these spaces of interaction as the gold to be found, we will organise a treasure hunt to uncover them. We will explore the city by interviewing visitors and residents, collecting mental maps, sketches, photos and stories. All this information will be collaged into a large piece of cartography showing the different layers of the investigation.
How could a collective treasure not be revealed to where it belongs? The map will be paraded on wheels through the streets towards the city council to be given as a souvenir
