Research Visit: VALCO2-T project

Last Tuesday, 26th May 2026, several teachers from the textile, clothing, and leather sector visited the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and, in particular, the DePRO research group, within the framework of the VALCO2-T project. VALCO2-T officially concluded on November 30th, 2025.

The main objective of VALCO2-T was to implement a multidisciplinary strategy to explore innovative physicochemical processes, particularly the integration of membrane technologies and electrolysis, for CO₂ recycling.

The project focused on the production of chemical compounds such as formic acid for applications in the textile sector, thereby promoting a circular economy model. The project was led by the University of Cantabria under the coordination of Prof. Ángel Irabien, from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. It involved close collaboration with Textil Santanderina S.A., Apria Systems S.L., and the Department of Communications Engineering of the University of Cantabria.
