🚴🚴 New work from a collaborative effort across CiQUS, now published in Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed.
A new study led by Manuel Souto reports a new strategy to develop intrinsically conductive covalent organic frameworks (COFs) by incorporating highly spin-delocalized neutral radicals into their structure.
The resulting material combines high crystallinity, permanent porosity and semiconducting behaviour, reaching a room-temperature electrical conductivity of 1.2 × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ — among the highest reported for neutral, non-doped COFs. By introducing the charge carriers directly into the framework, the approach avoids the need for conventional post-synthetic doping.
The study is also the result of a collaboration between three research groups at CiQUS, together with researchers from the University of Aveiro, highlighting the value of combining complementary expertise across the centre to address challenging problems in functional molecular materials.
