ENGLISH:
This is a student-oriented society that simply does as it says on the box: it promotes the diffusion and discussion of theatre plays among those who, like us, long to learn more about some of the most riveting recent productions from the Anglophone stage. So, from February on we are meeting twice a month: first to see a filmed theatre play and two weeks later to share our views, insights
and opinions about the play with others. Participation in the discussion will be free, and those who just want to be there listening or enjoying the play, will be very welcome to do so too. Both the screenings and the forum will be held in our Faculty, in the César Simón room (1st floor) and in order to facilitate the exchange of ideas before and after the meetings, there is a Wiki space where some useful materials (the scripts, articles and critical interpretations) will be uploaded. Those audacious members who dare to do so, will even be able to put their mind at rest by writing their own critical article and having it published online (great skill-honing for your CV, isn’t it?). Choose your language: English, Spanish, Catalan/Valencia. As we go along, we hope to be able to bring some special guests to the meetings, so conversations may be enriched by professional insights. Teachers are also very welcome to participate, but needless to say, no ECTS or any other academic reward will be involved except -hopefully- the enlargement of everyone's culture-awareness and intellectual fulfilment. Membership is open to students from all backgrounds. After all, isn't sharing your thoughts and listening to other’s the best way to learn? Now for the nitty-gritty: where's the catch? Relax. To fund the materials for the meetings there's a teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy, microscopic-pea-sized annual quota of only 2€. It's only 2€ for the whole year! And best of all, the kick off screening will be FREE, so everyone can have a cheeky peek! Our first free screening will take place on Wednesday 4th of February at the César Simón room (Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication, 1st floor) at 5.00pm. The chosen play for this opening session will be A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams (Dir. Benedict Andrews). Se trata de una sociedad de estudiantes cuyo objetivo principal es la difusión y el debate de obras teatrales entre todos aquellos a quienes, como a nosotros, les apasiona el teatro y están deseando aprender más sobre algunas de las últimas producciones de la escena anglófona. De modo que, a partir de febrero, vamos a reunirnos dos veces al mes: la primera para la proyección de una obra de teatro filmada (en inglés, con subtítulos en la medida de lo posible), y la segunda quince días después para compartir nuestras opiniones y sensaciones sobre la obra. La participación en el debate es libre, así que quienes solo quieran escuchar o ver la obra tranquilamente, pueden hacerlo también. Tanto las proyecciones como los debates tendrán lugar en nuestra Facultad, en la sala César Simón (1er piso). Para facilitar el intercambio de ideas, hemos creado un espacio Wiki, donde subiremos los materiales (textos en diferentes idiomas, crítica, artículos) para que a nadie se le escape nada. También para que, aquellos valientes que se atrevan, publiquen sus opiniones a modo de artículo (buena forma de ensayar para el futuro, ¿verdad?). Los idiomas con los que se trabajará serán el inglés, castellano y valenciano/catalán. A medida que avancemos, esperamos poder contar con invitados especiales que enriquezcan el debate con opiniones profesionales. Los profesores que quieran participar serán muy bienvenidos, siempre teniendo en cuenta que ser parte de la sociedad no implica ni la obtención de créditos ECTS, ni ningún tipo de distinción académica (aparte, claro está, del propio enriquecimiento cultural y desarrollo intelectual que se lleve cada uno). La sociedad está abierta para estudiantes de todos los ámbitos y carreras. Después de todo, ¿no es compartir ideas y escuchar las de otros la mejor manera de aprender sobre lo que nos interesa? Vale, ¿y la pega? Para sufragar las fotocopias y los materiales que se entreguen en las reuniones hemos puesto una cuota, una ridiculez de nada de cuota: 2€ al año. ¡Al año! Y lo que es aún mejor, la primera proyección se hará de forma GRATUITA, así que todo el mundo podrá empezar el cuatrimestre disfrutando de una obra por la patilla. Inauguraremos temporada el 4 de febrero a las 5.00pm en la sala César Simón (Facultad de Filología, Traducción y Comunicación, 1er piso). La obra que veremos será Un tranvía llamado Deseo de Tennessee Williams (Dir.
