Dear friends and colleagues,

This year marks a significant milestone for the Oral Health Foundation as we celebrate 50 years of Smile Month. This is a moment to reflect on the progress made in improving oral health, and to look ahead to the opportunities for even greater impact.

https://www.dentalhealth.org/national-smile-month

We are inviting everyone to join us in delivering this year’s campaign.

Smile Month has always been about more than awareness; it is about collective action. With your support, we can amplify key public health messages, reach more people, and help change how oral health is understood, prioritised, and integrated into overall health.

There are several ways to get involved:

Join and share the Smile Wall – celebrating all smiles https://www.dentalhealth.org/smile50

You can Nominate a Smile! https://www.dentalhealth.org/nominateasmile

Partnering on campaign delivery and outreach https://www.dentalhealth.org/Listing/Site/national-smile-month/Category/whats-on?Take=3

Sharing aligned content across your networks https://www.dentalhealth.org/Pages/FAQs/Site/national-smile-month/Category/smile-month-downloads

Contributing expertise, insight, or lived experience to strengthen our collective voice

This year, as we mark 50 years, we are particularly focused on:

Embedding prevention at the heart of health conversations

Addressing oral health inequalities

Highlighting the role of the wider workforce and cross-sector collaboration

We believe that real progress happens when organisations come together with a shared purpose. Your voice, expertise, and networks are vital to ensuring this campaign reaches its full potential.

If you would be interested in collaborating further, we would love to explore how we can work together. Please do get in touch, and we can arrange a conversation at your convenience.

We look forward to working together to make this milestone year truly impactful.

This year is our biggest year yet as we get ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Smile Month.

🦷🌍 This shines brighter than ever.

With oral health formally recognised in the UN Political Declaration on NCDs and Mental Health, the global health community is reinforcing a key truth: oral health is not an isolated issue — it’s central to overall wellbeing.

This year’s theme, “A is a Happy Life,” brings that message to life. Our ability to eat, speak, socialise and thrive all depends on oral health — and good daily habits support long-term wellbeing and help reduce the global NCD burden.

However, without meaningful policy reform and sustained investment, the ambition of WOHD 2026 will remain aspirational rather than transformative. Oral diseases affect around 3.7 billion people worldwide — despite being largely preventable.

Together, let’s and turn this momentum into action.
