Unity University President Dr. Arega Yirdaw was honored in June 9, 2026 in Woldia City with a bronze monument celebrating his extensive regional contributions.
The Woldia City Administration officially unveiled a permanent bronze monument dedicated to Dr. Arega Yirdaw in Dr. Arega Yirdaw Square. The tribute recognizes his transformative impact on the local community across infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.
Dr. Arega’s relationship with the region spans decades, most notably accelerating in 1999 following his return from the United States to lead major national development portfolios. Over the years, his leadership directly facilitated critical community assets, including local clean water access points, medical clinic support, and the construction of the landmark Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi Stadium in Woldia, which was inaugurated on January 14, 2017.
Regional, Zonal dignitaries, city officials, and thousands of residents gathered to celebrate the unveiling. During the ceremony, organizers highlighted his long-standing commitment to social accountability and community development.
Reflecting on his organizational philosophy, Dr. Arega previously shared a core belief that drives his community work in Ethiopian Business Review: "Business has to be human-centered."
City officials noted that the monument is designed to stand as a lasting inspiration for future generations, symbolizing what can be achieved when professional success is paired with deep civic duty.

Unity University Students Participate in the Social Space by Wings Education and Media

On May 26, 2026, members of the UNA-ET Unity University Chapter participated in The Social Space, a monthly forum, organized by Wings Education and Media dedicated to fostering dialogue on pressing social issues and youth engagement.

The event featured an insightful presentation by Nahusenay Girma on the theme “Purposeful Living: Living with Intention, Clarity, and Impact.” The session provided participants with valuable insights into purposeful leadership, personal development, and the importance of making meaningfully contributions to society.
In addition to the discussion session, participants actively engaged in a blood donation initiative organized as part of the program, demonstrating a strong commitment to humanitarian service and community responsibility.

Unity University commends the active involvement of its students in initiatives that promote leadership, civic engagement, and social impact, in line with the University’s commitment to holistic student development and community service.

Unity University Reinforces Commitment to Leadership Development through MUN 2026
On May 23, 2026, the UNA-ET Unity University Chapter successfully concluded Model United Nations (MUN) 2026, an engaging platform that brought together young leaders to foster dialogue, diplomacy, and collaborative problem-solving.
Through dynamic committee sessions and constructive deliberations, participants demonstrated exceptional commitment, critical thinking, and leadership while addressing global and societal issues in a professional diplomatic setting. The event served as an important opportunity for students to enhance their public speaking, negotiation, and policy-analysis skills.
Unity University extends its sincere appreciation to all partners and collaborators whose invaluable support contributed to the successful implementation of the program, including Adwa Partners Consultancy PLC and U-Report. Their commitment to empowering youth leadership and creating platforms for meaningful engagement is highly appreciated.

Media Initiative Africa Boosts Financial Reporting in Africa with 101 New Graduates
May 19, 2026, Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa successfully graduated 101 professionals trained in financial journalism. The program was designed to equip journalists, development practitioners, and public policy professionals with the skills and tools needed to accurately report on complex financial issues and market data.
The graduation ceremony took place at Sheraton Addis and was attended by Dr. AregaYirdaw, President and CEO of Unity University; Dr. Samuel Kifle, President of Addis Ababa University; participants; and other invited guests.
During the ceremony, Dr. AregaYirdaw emphasized that financial journalism, unlike political reporting, requires special caution and should be based on facts and figures.
Unity University is one of the major training partners of Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa.
