BiT-BDU Hosts PhD Dissertation Defense Program

Mr. Gedefaw Asmare has successfully defended his PhD dissertation under the Faculty of Chemical and Food Engineering at the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU)
The dissertation, titled “Biomass-Derived Carbon-Metal Nanocomposite Electrodes for Sustainable Hybrid Supercapacitors: Synthesis, Characterization, and Performance Evaluation”, explores innovative approaches to energy storage. By harnessing biomass-derived materials, the research aims to advance the development of eco-friendly and high-performance supercapacitors — a technology critical for sustainable energy solutions.
The defense was chaired under the guidance of Prof. Nigus Gbbiye Habtu, Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, with co-supervision from Dr. Metadel Kassahun Abera and Dr. Temesgen Atnafu Yemata, both Associate Professors in related engineering fields.
During the defense, the internal and external examiners and the attending audience posed numerous insightful questions and comments, to which Mr. Gedefaw Asmare provided thorough and detailed responses.

BiT-BDU Hosts PhD Dissertation Public Defense

The Faculty of Civil and Water Resource Engineering at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT), Bahir Dar University, successfully hosted a PhD dissertation public defense by researcher Mr. Mengesha Tesfaw Abay.
The dissertation, entitled “Groundwater Dynamics Under Variable Hydro-Climatic Conditions and Implications for Water Management: The Case of Kobo Valley, Danakil Basin, Ethiopia,” addresses critical issues related to groundwater resources, climate variability, and sustainable water management in one of Ethiopia’s environmentally sensitive regions.
The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mekete Dessie of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University. Co-supervisors included Prof. Dr. Kristine Walraevens from Ghent University, Belgium, and Dr. Fenta Nigate from Bahir Dar University.
