PhD Dissertation Public Defense Successfully Held at BiT–BDU

Mr. Molla Addisu Mossie, a doctoral candidate from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT), Bahir Dar University, successfully defended his PhD dissertation in a public defense.
The dissertation, titled “A Study on Voltage Stability Assessment and Enhancement Schemes for Power Distribution Networks,” focuses on developing critical assessment methods and enhancement schemes to improve the reliability, stability, and performance of electrical power distribution networks.

The research was conducted under a collaborative supervisory team of prominent Ethiopian academics:

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology Conducts Induction Training for New Academic Staff

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University, conducted an induction training program for newly appointed academic staff.
The training aimed to equip new instructors with the essential pedagogical, technological, research, and administrative competencies needed to excel in their academic careers.
The induction program provided a structured introduction to the university’s academic environment, institutional policies, and professional expectations. It focused on supporting new academic staff in becoming effective educators, productive researchers, and active members of the university community.
The training covered key areas, including institutional governance, ethics and promotion, teaching methods and curriculum design, student assessment and feedback, educational technology, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration. It also addressed research strategy, grant writing, scholarly impact, inclusive pedagogy, and student support.
Particular emphasis was placed on outcome-based course design, active learning strategies, effective use of digital learning platforms, and the creation of inclusive learning environments. Participants also received guidance on balancing teaching responsibilities with research activities, academic publication, and professional development.
Through this initiative, BiT reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening academic capacity, promoting quality education, and supporting the professional growth of its newly appointed academic staff.
