Jimma University, Ethiopia Jimma University (JU) is a public university in the Jimma Zone of the central Oromia Region of Ethiopia. JU is a pioneer in Public health training.

The jimma university campus is located in the city of Jimma 352 kilometers southwest of Addis Ababa covering 167 hectares. JU is Ethiopia's first innovative community-oriented education institution of higher learning, with teaching centers for health care students in Jimma, Omo Nada, Shebe, Agaro, and Asendabo.[2] JU also publishes the biannual Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences, and launched t

he Jimma University Journal of Law in October 2007. In collaboration with national and international partners, which includes the Federal Ministry of Health, JU is offering a new graduate program in the monitoring and evaluation of health programs and services.

ዶ/ር ገርቢ ዱጉማ በ1954 ዓ.ም ሆሮጉድሩ ወለጋ ልዩ ስሙ አቤዶጎሮ በሚባል ስፍራ ተወለዱ ፡፡ የመጀመሪያ ደረጃ ትምህርታቸውን በሻምቡ መለስተኛ ሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤት እስከ 1963 ዓ.ም የተከታተሉ ስሆን የሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርታቸውን በአዲስ አበባ ጄኔራል ዊንጌት ትምህርት ቤት እስከ 1966 ዓ.ም ተከታትለዋል፡፡
ዶ/ር ገርቢ ዱጉማ የመጀመሪያ ዲግሪአቸዉን ከ1969-1975 ዓ.ም እና የማስተርስ ዲግሪያቸውን ከ1982ዓ.ም- 1986 ዓ.ም ባሉት ጊዜያት ሞስኮ አገር ከሚገኘው ሌንግሬስ ዩኒቨርስቲ አግኝተዋል፡፡
ዶ/ር ገርቢ ከ1976ዓ.ም ጀምሮ በነጌሌ ቦረና ፤ በአለርት እና በራስ ደስታ ሆስፒታሎችና በኮልፌ ጤና ጣቢያ በተለያዩ የኃላፊነት ቦታዎች ላይ በመመደብ በከፍተኛ ሙያዊ ፍቅርና ስራ ወዳድነት አገልግለዋል፡፡
ዶ/ር ገርቢ ዱጉማ ከ1986ዓ.ም እሰከ አሁን በጅማ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የቆዳና የአባለዘር በሽታ ሀኪሚ እና የዩኒቨርስቲዉ መምህር ሆነዉ ስራቸዉን በብቃትና በታታሪነት እየሰሩ ይገኛሉ፡፡ በአጠቃላይ ዶ/ር ገርቢ ዱጉማ ከ30 አመታት በላይ በቅንነትና በህዝብ ተቆርቋሪነት ስሜት ሙያ ብቻ ሳይሆን የስነምግባርም አርአያ በመሆን ያገለገሉ አንጋፋ ባለሙያ ናቸዉ፡፡

Senior Director of JU External Relations Office Passed away

Professor Challi Jira, the late Senior Director of the External Relation and Communication Office of Jimma University, passed away on Thursday mid-night, January 24, 2014.
Professor Chali Jira born on January 16, 1948 has been working as Administrative Health Officer and Regional Manager of Health in different parts of Oromia Region after he obtained his first degree from Gonder College of public health. He has secured his second degree in Public Health from Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam Netherlands and his third degree (Doctor of Philosophy in Health Service Management) from California University.
The late professor Challi Jira has been working in Jimma University since July 9, 1987 as Director of Graduate School and as Senior Director of External Relations and Communications Office.

The management Board of Jimma University has approved and given him the rank of professor on its 11th Regular meeting held on March 17, 2006. Professor Chali has produced Different Teaching Materials, Publications on different Topics and many research works. He is survived by three daughters and a son.
