Bluefors

Bluefors Bluefors is the world leader in manufacturing cryogenic measurement systems and cryocoolers.

BlueFors Cryogenics specializes in cryogen-free, ultra-low temperature dilution refrigerator systems aiming to supply the highest possible quality products. We deliver systems for cutting-edge research fields such as quantum computing and nano-technology. BlueFors technology was developed at the world famous Low Temperature Laboratory (LTL) at Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto Universit

y). In 2007 the first dry-DR was taken into use by the NANO-group of the LTL, shortly after BlueFors Cryogenics was established as a company. With over 200 systems installed worldwide, we are now among the leading suppliers of cryogen-free dilution refrigerator systems.

Last week, we had the pleasure of co-hosting the IBM–Bluefors Quantum Network Dinner with our partners IBM Quantum at our Helsinki headquarters.

We welcomed a distinguished group of executives and experts from the Finnish industry and quantum ecosystem to explore how quantum computing is rapidly moving from research into real-world, commercial and industrial applications, and what that means in practice for organizations today.

Throughout the evening, participants gained direct insights from IBM Quantum, Bluefors, and leading ecosystem partners. From Petra Florizoone’s keynote on quantum as a strategic reality, to Bluefors’ perspective on the infrastructure enabling quantum systems, and a series of lightning talks covering everything from algorithms to real engineering use cases. The message was clear: quantum is no longer a distant vision, but an emerging business capability.

During the factory tour, guests had the opportunity to see how quantum infrastructure is built and scaled. What was once limited to research labs has now transitioned to production-grade infrastructure, enabling quantum computing globally.

IBM and Bluefors are co-architecting the future of quantum hardware together pushing the boundaries of cryogenics, scalability, and systems integration to unlock real-world impact.

A sincere thank you to all speakers and contributors who shared their insights throughout the evening: Petra Florizoone (IBM Quantum), Mikko Nurminen (Bluefors), Elsi-Mari Borrelli (Algorithmiq), Jaana Komscha-Härkönen (Quanscient), Teemu Ojanen (Tampere University), Juha Vesanto (OP Pohjola), Kim Povlsen (Bluefors), Maarit Palo (IBM Quantum), and Pierre Jaeger (IBM Quantum).

We also thank all participants for the open discussions and engagement. Industry leaders, researchers, and technology pioneers came together to share perspectives on readiness, adoption, and the role each organization can play in shaping this next era.

Quantum is no longer a future concept—it’s time to engage.

Explore a dilution refrigerator like never before!

These seriously cool fridges create the coldest temperatures in the world. But how is that possible?

This interactive 3D model of our LDsl system gives you a new way to explore the answer. Step inside the system, examine its components, and see how each one plays a role in the cooling process.

From stage to stage, you can follow how the system is engineered to reach and maintain ultra-low temperatures.

We are excited to announce a collaboration with Basel Precision Instruments, integrating their Microwave Filter & Thermalizer (MFT) into Bluefors systems.

In quantum experiments at millikelvin temperatures, microwave noise and insufficient thermalization of signal lines can obscure delicate quantum phenomena and prevent reliable and reproducible results. This collaboration helps address those challenges, with a fully integrated solution improving system-level performance.

Basel’s Microwave Filter & Thermalizer (MFT), integrated into Bluefors systems, provides:

💎A clean microwave environment (>100 dB microwave attenuation above 100 MHz, sustained into high-GHz range)
💎Improved electron temperature tracking at the sample
💎Ready-to-use, tested solution integrated with the measurement system

This collaboration reflects a shared focus on removing practical barriers in low temperature experiments, helping researchers spend more time on experiments and less on setting up measurement infrastructure.

Contact our Sales team to learn how you can benefit from this solution.

Bluefors at OECD MCM 2026: Shaping the Future of Global Investment

Bluefors is proud to participate in the Business at OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) side event during the 2026 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris, marking the 50th Anniversary of the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises.

On 2 June 2026, Tuomas Nirvi, Director for Trade, Compliance and Public Affairs at Bluefors, will join a panel of global leaders to discuss “Keeping Investment Open, Competitive and Secure: Business Expectations from the OECD Framework”.

This event brings together policymakers and industry to explore how OECD investment standards can continue to foster predictability, openness, and trust—essential foundations for innovation-driven sectors such as quantum technology.

At Bluefors, we believe that resilient, transparent, and forward-looking investment frameworks are critical to enabling long-term technological progress and global collaboration.

We look forward to contributing to this important dialogue.

What will it take for quantum computing to move from potential to widespread use?

In this Quantum Insider story, our Chief Business Development Officer, Dr. David Gunnarsson, shares his perspective in on what is holding the industry back.

His message is clear: the technology is ready, but widespread adoption needs a clear, commercially viable use case.

The hardware is scaling, the infrastructure is in place, and cryogenics can already support systems with thousands of qubits. The ecosystem is not waiting on science or engineering anymore. It is waiting for a moment that demonstrates undeniable business value.

Just as AI saw its turning point with ChatGPT, quantum computing is waiting for a breakthrough that takes it beyond the lab and delivers real-world impact.

As David writes, the next chapter of quantum will not be defined by qubit milestones alone, but by real business outcomes. When that moment comes, the industry is ready to scale.
