🚀 UniPID Virtual Studies are now part of RIPA!

Have you heard the news? UniPID has joined the cross-institutional studies service (Ristiinopiskelun palveluväylä - RIPA), making it easier than ever to enrol in Virtual Studies courses and transfer your credits!

From now on, UniPID no longer manages course registrations. Instead, all Virtual Studies courses are found in member universities' course catalogues, making it possible to directly register for the course through Sisu and Peppi study information systems. Moreover, the completed credits are automatically transferred to the student’s transcript of records via RIPA.

Our latest blog post walks you through how RIPA works in practice!

🔗 Learn all about it here:

Earlier this spring, UniPID as a network was connected to the cross-institutional studies service (in Finnish, Ristiinopiskelupalvelu, RIPA). This marks a new chapter for UniPID Virtual Studies! Let’s break down what this all means in practice!

📣 Pre-announcement for co-funding

Koneen Säätiö - Kone Foundation has granted the Finnish Scholar Protection Scheme €450,000, allowing UniPID to initiate the coordination of two co-funded scholar protection periods of up to three years at Finnish universities. The Finnish Scholar Protection Scheme is an initiative that defends academic freedom by hosting scholars whose freedom is threatened, regardless of their geographic location.

The Finnish Scholar Scheme will be opening a call for proposals for member universities to host scholars at risk with co-funding. Finnish member universities can apply for co-funding of up to 240,000 euros to host a scholar at risk for a period of up to three years. The funding period occurs between 2027 and 2029.

🍄 Faces Behind the Course: Meet Maria Helena Saari and Anna Vladimirova!

For the academic year 2026-2027, UniPID will launch a new course on the Virtual Studies Catalogue: Critical and Multispecies Approaches to Environmental Education, taught by Maria Helena Saari, PhD and Anna Vladimirova at Oulun yliopisto - University of Oulu. The course critically explores diverse educational frameworks related to sustainability, including place-responsive and eco-justice education, while examining socio-political issues, climate change, and multispecies perspectives.

We had a lovely opportunity to interview Maria and Anna for the Faces Behind the Course series, in which they share their perspectives on sustainability, pedagogy, and deep curiosity about human and more-than-human coexistence. Maria and Anna also revealed their sources of inspiration, listing a diverse range of books, scholarly work, art, and communities.
