Development of Metsähallitus project economy reporting process and HR functions

Subject and wishes regarding the applicant
• We are looking for a student interested in the above topic of Master's thesis. We consider work experience in project economics and HR to be an advantage. Student has studies related to the subject. Knowledge and expertise in financial and PMO systems as well Office software are useful in the task.
• We expect the student to have the ability to cooperate, interest and know-how to analyze and document the current status. We expect the student to be able to present the latest development measures related to the topic - that's the most important!
• The Master's thesis can be written in either Finnish or English. However, we want to have related discussions in Finnish. Financial materials of Metsähallitus are in Finnish, and the financier's reports are partly in English. We offer a grant for Master's thesis from the Helsinki School of Economics Support Foundation (12,000 euros).

Projects in Metsähallitus
• Depending on the time, Metsähallitus manages about 50 to 150 projects - financed with external funding - mainly with different types of EU funding. 5 project finance experts are working in the project finance in cooperation with project managers. We make cumulative project-time (several years) accounting reporting as well as financier reporting (in a format specified by the financier). Projects have many interfaces to HR functions. We want to develop good practices of financial reporting and automate e.g. payroll process for projects.

Trainee position at Konecranes

Part of Konecranes Diversity & Inclusion initiative we are conducting multiple activities and projects to become more diverse & inclusive organisation. One identified area of development is “blind recruiting”, where we would explore (as a pilot) feasibility, experiences and results of conducting blind recruitment process (screening) as part of our recruitment process.

The HR trainee would, in close collaboration with Talent Acquisition and HR teams:
• Plan, coordinate and support in setting up a blind recruitment pilot & project for selected EMEA countries
• Facilitate the screening process, collaborate with stakeholders and provide needed material & communications during the process.
• Measure the results, gather feedback and report the outcome
• If time allows, the HR trainee could also work with other D&I related activities & initiatives within EMEA.

The position duration is 2-3 months depending the candidates availability and can be done part time.

Diversity and inclusion in organisations | KAUTE talks x Aalto University

Finnish society is becoming more diverse, and efficiently harnessing all of the available talent will enable success for everyone. The most innovative and disruptive ideas tend to originate from interdisciplinary and diverse teams. However, many bottlenecks still remain in fostering diversity and inclusion. Gender roles continue to guide young people’s choices, and a non-Finnish name may slow down career advancement.

How do multinational corporations plan and implement practices of diversity and inclusion? How can startups and NGOs from different walks of life enhance diversity and inclusion in the societies that they are embedded in?

Meet the faculty: Professor Ingmar Björkman

Ingmar (‘Inkku’) Björkman is professor of International Business in the Department of Management Studies. He served as the Dean of the School of Business during 2012-19. Prior to joining Aalto he was a faculty member at Hanken School of Economics (Helsinki) and held visiting positions at Stanford University, Hong Kong University, ESSEC, and INSEAD.

After having completed his terms as Dean, Inkku is thrilled now to have the opportunity to concentrate more on teaching. At Aalto he teaches the BSc course International Business in the Age of Disruption, the MSc course People Management in Multinational Organization, the PhD course Human Dimensions in Multinational Corporations, and the Executive MBA course People Management.

Inkku’s research interests focus on people management issues in international organizations. Within this area he has published extensively, both for academics audiences and for practitioners and students. For the moment, he is busy working on the fourth edition of his book Global Challenge: International Human Resource Management together his co-authors Vlado Pucik, Paul Evans, and Guenter Stahl. The book is used as a textbook at Aalto and elsewhere.

Inkku has lots of great memories from the business school. One special moment was when in 2019 the School relocated to brand-new premises on Aalto’s Otaniemi campus. For the first time in decades graduate students and faculty members had the opportunity to study and work in one building, the design of which was the outcome of a collective process involving students, faculty, and staff.

MIB Programme No 1 among applicants

This year there was a significant increase in applications for our study programs at Aalto BIZ. The good news is that MIB has been the most popular program among applicants. It received altogether 237 applications for 63 places (a significant increase compared to 147 applications last year). So, the competition is going to be tough and it indicates that the program is a popular one among our prospective students.
