Professor Vincenzo Cerullo, researcher at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Pharmacy and founder of the ImmunoViroTherapy laboratory, was awarded the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy (Ordine della Stella d'Italia) at the Italian Republic Day celebrations held at the Helsinki City Auditorium.
Italian Ambassador Nicola Todaro Marescotti presented the honour in recognition of Professor Cerullo's outstanding contribution to promoting Italian scientific research abroad and strengthening scientific cooperation between Italy and Finland. 🇮🇹 🇫🇮
Professor Cerullo has established himself as an international leader in cancer research and the development of personalised cancer vaccines. He trained at the University of Naples Federico II before continuing his studies at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, ultimately building a world-class research career in Finland while maintaining strong ties with the Italian scientific community.
This distinction, which ranks as the second civilian honour of the Italian State, is awarded to Italians living abroad and to foreign nationals who have shown exceptional merit in fostering friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries, and in strengthening ties with Italy.
A remarkable example of how scientific talent can build bridges between nations.
