This year in the LUT Summer School we welcomed the representative of the leading global supplier to the automotive and industrial sectors - the Schaeffler Group.

Shaeffler’s design engineer visited our courses Systematic Creativity TRIZ and Basics of System Control with a real task of industry to find a student working on a challenging project.

Students got inspired when studying the Course Critical Issues in International Business and Entrepreneurship - Anticipating Global Challenges Managerially and Entrepreneurially!

The Professor Maria Elo conducted her studies in the class room, beach sauna building and the city center!

Students developed skills and competences to tackle complex real-life problems in collaboration with others while facilitating their entrepreneurial mindsets and sense of purpose.

So our first students are arriving this weekend and we provide them with the pick-up service from the airport/railway/bus station to their accommodation. We want to make their first day in Lappeenranta easier and less stressful after a long trip 👍

Karl-Erik (Kalle) Michelsen is a Professor for Science, Technology and Modern Society at the LUT Business School since 2012. His field of expertise covers technology and innovation studies, business and economic history and strategy research. Professor Michelsen has a long history in higher education.

Professor Michelsen has collaborated with several large global companies, such as KONE, Vaisala, MetsoOutotec and Fortum. In addition, he has actively participated in innovation, technology and science policy discourse and coordinated and evaluated higher education projects in Finland and in Europe.

The Globalizing business -course aims to provide the students worth knowledge of the process related to the corporate strategic decision making.

The main objectives of the course are:

1. to inspire students to investigate how companies build competences and how they transfer from local to national and finally to global markets.

2. to increase the understanding of internal and external factors that shape the strategic decision-making process.

3. to equip students with the frameworks that explain why some companies are more capable for succeeding in making transformation and entering the global markets.

4. to give students practical knowledge on how to study and investigate strategic decision-making processes.

The course includes interactive lectures, in-class assignments, group-work assignments and workshops.

All LUT Summer School students get a free access to sport facilities. MOVEO is a joint sports and wellness service for LUT University's and LAB University of Applied Sciences' students and staff.

The 300m2 Gym on Skinnarila campus is in building 1 ground floor. The gym has a wide selection of modern equipment for cardio and weight training with machines and free weights. Access to the gym will be updated automatically to your key tag.

You can also book a sports hall for you and your student friends. LUT Sports hall is located in building 3, 1st floor, and Saimaa sports hall is in the LAB building ground floor.

All international LUT Summer School students will be provided a furnished single room in shared apartments in the Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation LOAS. The residences are within walking distance of the university.

Furnished apartment includes:
- In the kitchen - a table, benches, refigerator, oven
- Bathroom
- In the room - a desk, office chair, bookcase, desk lamp, bed with a mattress (80x200 cm)

There is a laundry room at your disposal free of charge.

There are saunas at the buildings and you can also use Vierula sauna by the lake Saimaa on Mondays and Wednesdays 17-21.

Accommodation: 1 week EUR 225, 2 weeks EUR 295, 3 weeks EUR 375

We offer MOOCs free of charge to get familiar with how to study in LUT before coming to LUT Summer School 2023 and feel how to be a part of our Green Campus.

Each course is 2 ECTS. The courses are held in English, and you can complete them independently at a time that suits you.

It´s time to get to know the LUT Summer School´s

Maria Elo is our visiting teacher next summer. She is an Associate Professor at University of Southern Denmark, Professor at Belt and Road Institute of International Business at Shanghai University, Senior research fellow at University of Turku and Adjunct Professor at Åbo Akademi University.

Maria works on international business, -entrepreneurship and -migration with topics such as internationalization, sustainability, diversity, resources of skilled migrants and returnees and so on. She has published books and articles in many journals.
