How quickly can a prosperous, one of the largest in the world airline lose 300 million euros? Air France-KLM has shown that 3 months are needed.

Since February the airline's employees represented by powerful French trade unions were striking for 14 days, demanding 5.1% increase in salaries. Air France's executive board, backed by President Macron, wanted to postpone it, offering 7% increase, but within 4 years. However, the offer was rejected, forcing the CEO of Franco-Dutch airline to resign. Having realized that French trade unions are using the national carrier to fight against the modernization of labor market and to maintain their stron position, the government announced it would not rescue the company. According to the highest France's officials, if trade unions do not reach the agreement, the company will collapse.

$318 billion: that’s the value of the Chinese investments made in Europe since 2008. It is 45% more than in the U.S. in the same time frame! Even more surprisingly, there are no specific branches which the Chinese companies would be interested in. Chemicals, energy, IT software, real estate in the largest European capitals, infrastructure - investments are made anywhere possible.

Ideas of restricting the flow Chinese money to EU emerged, but most of the member states are not willing to change anything, treating Chinese investments as an opportunity to recover after the 2008 crisis.

Hello everyone! The new BABU Board decided to launch a project of sharing the most interesting (at least according to us) business article every single week.

Today we start with anti-obesity policy introduced in the UK. Following Mexico, France and Norway, the government of, according to OECD report, ”the most obese country in western Europe” decided to introduce sugar tax on many popular beverages like Fanta or Coca-Cola to reduce their consumption. However, critics say that producers are likely to sell drinks in smaller bottles, raising the price and putting tax burden solely on consumers. On the other hand, supporters show that sugar tax in Mexico resulted in 12% lower sugar beverages consumption, expecting similar results in Britain.
