[FI-EN] Toukokuussa kesä jo kolkutteli ovella, m***a paljon oli vielä tehtävää ja nähtävää!

Hallitus tapasi mm. PSOASia, vieraili Sodexon pakeilla sekä matkusti Helsinkiin vierailemaan eduskunnassa.

Julkaisimme myös kannanottoja opiskelijoiden toimeentuloon sekä avoimen yliopiston tutkinnonanto-oikeuteen liittyen sekä artikkelin opiskelijoiden toimeentuloon ja asumiseen keskittyvän kyselyn pohjalta. 🌞

In May summer was just around the corner, but there was still plenty to do and see!

Throughout the month, the board of OYY met up with PSOAS, visited Sodexo to discuss student meals and travelled to Helsinki to visit the Finnish Parliament.

We also published statements on student livelihood and the government proposal to grant degree-awarding rights through open university education, as well as an article based on our survey focusing on students’ financial situation and housing. 🌞

Järjestöjä löytyy laidasta laitaan, urheilusta musiikkiin ja videopeleistä taiteeseen. Jokaiselle opiskelijalle löytyy varmasti jotain joka sytyttää, ja järjestöt tarjoavat hienon mahdollisuuden löytää omanhenkisiä ihmisiä!

Do you get bored in your free time? Feel like you want to try out a new hobby? If so, you should look into the interest societies operating within OYY!

There’s a wide array of interest societies, from sports to music and from videogames to art. There’s something for every kind of student, and these societies offer a great opportunity to meet like-minded people!

You can get to know the interest societies during autumn at The Hurmos Day Event or at Harrasteappro, or by looking them up at OYY’s website! ✨

Haluatko vaikuttaa YTHS:n palveluihin? SAMOK ja SYL ovat laatineet YTHS-kyselyn korkeakouluopiskelijoille. Kyselyssä selvitetään opiskelijoiden mielipiteitä YTHS:n palveluista. Tietoja hyödynnetään vaikuttamistyössä.
Kysely on avoinna 18.5.–5.6. Kyselyyn vastaamaan pääset bion linkistä!

Do you want to influence FSHS’s services? SAMOK and SYL have made an FSHS survey for higher education students. The survey aims to gather students’ views about FSHS services. The results are used in advocacy work. The survey is open 18.5.-5.6. You can find the link in bio!

[FI-EN] Haluaisitko päättää lukuvuoden perinteiseen tapaan suvivirren merkeissä? OYY, OSAKO ja Kirkko kampuksella järjestävät jälleen yhdessä tilaisuuden, jossa kokoonnumme yhdessä laulamaan Suvivirren tiedekirjasto Pegasuksen edustalle keskiviikkona 27.5. klo 14. Laulun jälkeen 60 ensimmäistä pääsevät nauttimaan myös kakkukahvit!

Would you like to end the academic year traditionally with the Finnish hymn Suvivirsi? OYY, OSAKO and the University chaplains are once again organising an event where we sing Suvivirsi in front of the Pegasus library on Wednesday 27 May at 2 PM. After the hymn, the first 60 participants can enjoy coffee and cake!

Suvivirsi is a hymn traditionally sung at the end of the year celebrations in schools. Suvivirsi can be translated as “Summer Hymn”!

Tule meille töihin!

Etsimme nyt viestintäasiantuntijaa vakituiseen työsuhteeseen 3.8. alkaen. Viestintäasiantuntijana pääset työskentelemään sekä jäsenviestinnän että edunvalvonnan ja vaikuttamisviestinnän parissa. Työ on monipuolista ja sillä on konkreettinen vaikutus jäsentemme eli opiskelijoiden arkeen!

[FI-EN] OYY:n hallitus otti kantaa Oulussa jälleen tapahtuneeseen väkivallantekoon, joka kohdistui Oulun yliopiston opiskelijaan. Oulussa on tärkeää panostaa rasisminvastaiseen työhön, jotta jokainen voisi asua ja opiskella täällä turvallisin mielin. Voit lukea koko kannanoton nettisivuiltamme.

OYY’s Board made a statement about violence that has again occurred in Oulu, and where the victim was a University of Oulu student. It is important to focus on the anti-racism work in Oulu, so everyone can live and study here safely. You can read the whole statement on our website.

Huhtikuu, se kevään kuukausista kiireisin! OYY:n hallitus on ehtinyt vaikka ja minne, kuten esimerkiksi Helsinkiin ja Rattoradion lähetykseen. Järjestimme myös Wapun avajaiset yhteistyössä kattokiltojen kanssa sekä herättelimme Linnanmaan kampusta Wapun viettoon Wapputorilla. 🎊🪩

April, the busiest month of the spring! OYY has been here, there and everywhere, visiting Helsinki and even Rattoradio! We also organized the Wappu Opening with the umbrella guilds and brought Wappu to the Linnanmaa campus with our Wappu Fair. 🎊🪩

Let’s celebrate a sustainable Wappu together!

OYY wishes you a happy Wappu season and shares tips for celebrating a more sustainable student Wappu. Wappu Day is approaching and the festivities are reaching their peak—so even while celebrating, keep OYY’s tips for a sustainable Wappu in mind!

Collect your own trash and help others:
Bring a bag for your waste. You can sort trash into separate bags or do the sorting later. Chips bags and shopping bags also work great as garbage bags.

Dispose of cigarette butts, ni****ne pouches, and vapes properly:
Cigarette butts contain plastic and don’t belong on the ground. Get a handy pocket ashtray or ask a friend for a snus container to use as one.
Vapes (e-cigarettes) are electronic waste, so don’t throw them in mixed waste.

Avoid single-use tableware:
Carry your own cup or glass, which you can conveniently attach to your overalls.
If you do use disposables, choose biodegradable materials.

Use a reusable bag:
Pack your Wappu groceries and picnic treats in a reusable bag.

Don’t buy bottled water:
Carry your own water bottle to stay hydrated!

Don’t leave bottles behind:
Especially don’t leave glass bottles in nature! Return bottles to the store or give them to someone collecting them. Broken glass in parks and nature is dangerous for both small city animals and people.

Wappu outfits and decorations:
Do you need fun accessories for Wappu—foil balloons, a silly hat or a horn? Buy less, choose your favorite, find items second-hand, or borrow from a friend! Keep your accessories and decorations with you and don’t litter.
