Things I’m learning as a nursing student 🩺💊

Nursing studies are about more than books and exams! From learning with our teachers during simulation classes to practising nursing skills and learning during training placements, every experience teaches me something new.

I’m learning to be patient with myself, ask questions, support my classmates, and become more confident little by little. 🍀

There’s still so much to learn, and I’m enjoying every step of this journey 🤍

Studying in Lapland doesn’t automatically mean studying in Finnish.

Both Lapland University of Applied Sciences and the University of Lapland offer English-taught bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. I’m studying Machine Learning and Data Engineering, but there are also many other fields to choose from.

Learning Finnish can still be really useful, and it’s always important to check the language and admission requirements for the specific programme you’re interested in.

University and university of applied sciences can sound almost like the same thing, but studying at them can actually feel quite different.

Güneş studies at the University of Lapland and I study at Lapland University of Applied Sciences, so we thought it would be interesting to compare our own experiences.

For me, AMK is much more connected to practical work, projects and applying what we learn. From Güneş’s side, university studies are more focused on research, theory, academic writing and going deeper into the subject.

Of course, every programme is different, but this is how the difference feels from our student perspectives.

My personal favorite is the game selection, since I love both board games and video games. This way, I don’t need to buy a new game every few months, I just borrow, play, and return it, and I get to try them all, even the ones that just came out. Had you tried any of this before? ✨

Before moving here, we all have a picture in our heads of what life in Lapland will look like… and then reality adds its own little plot twists. 👀

Maybe it’s learning the famous winter walk on icy streets 🐧🧊, realizing that staying warm is the winter look 🧣, or discovering that the Northern Lights don’t always follow your schedule. 🌌

Some things take a little getting used to, some make you laugh, and some turn out even better than you expected. And somehow, those unexpected moments become part of the experience and eventually, part of what makes Lapland feel like home. ❤️❄️

Finding my sense of home in a new country 🌸

Moving to a new country comes with a lot of changes. For me, feeling at home didn’t happen overnight. It came slowly through small routines, meeting new people, exploring my surroundings, and staying connected to my culture.

Sometimes, it’s the little everyday moments that make a new place feel familiar. 🍀

Still learning, still exploring, and slowly making Finland feel like home. 🧡
