✈️ Most students know of the semester/year-long exchange periods, but did you know that you could also do short-term exchange, for instance, over the summer?

🌍 Some universities offer short-term exchange opportunities at a fee (and occasionally free of charge)! It serves as a great opportunity to bring yourself to a new environment and elevate your studies!

💡 We’ve interviewed one of our students, Dhanushi, who has been on two short-term exchange periods, one in Portugal and one in the Netherlands. Check it out for some insight on why short-term exchange might be a great opportunity for you!

❗️For those interested in pursuing such opportunities, further information can be found on the Tampere University website.

🍗 Did you know that Tampere is responsible for nearly half of the chicken wing consumption in all of Finland?

💡 But what might be even better to know is that you can also find some delicious chicken wings on campus! Wings Friday happens every week at Café Konehuone! You can order portions from 5 to 20 pieces, and they do offer a student discount!

🌱 For those following a vegan or vegetarian diet, vegan alternatives are also offered (cauliflower wings)! No one is left out from the wings craze.

Minh Vu, one of our programme students believes that Tampere is the most student-friendly city in Finland. Here are some other thoughts of his on his studies here:

- “I have been staying in Tampere for one and a half years, and the main thing that attracted me to come and live here is the exceptional college-student activities that no other cities in Finland could compare with.”

- “As I mentioned above, Tampere is simply a city for students, which means that if you are a student, then, according to my own and my peers' opinions, living in Tampere is the best option you could have among all the cities in Finland.”

- “Coming from a very dense neighbourhood, the most different thing I noticed when moved to Tampere is the peacefulness of the city. The place where I'm living, Hervanta, is super quiet and spacious, as the population density is pretty low, and it's completely contrasted to the buzzing environment where I was born and raised in Vietnam.”

- “I wouldn't say that choosing to live and study in Tampere for at least 3 years is a right or wrong decision, since although there have been moments that I was super depressed and discouraged, I still have a lot of memorable times that I feel lucky enough to experience.”

📌 Tampere is known to be one of the most attractive cities in Finland for students and generally the most attractive city in Finland, and Minh’s thoughts on student life here are a testimony of that.

For new international students, attending university doesn’t just mean adjusting to the university, it also means getting used to a new country! For many, Finland might be a hugely different place from their home countries in all sorts of ways, from food and culture to the climate. ☃️

📌 Take a look at some of the responses our programme’s students gave us after asking them about some of the culture shocks they faced when they first began to settle in!

Apply to be a tutor! 🩷 Successful studies, integration into the community and well-being are all strongly rooted in the first steps a student takes on the university campus. New students are supported in these by tutors. TREY are looking for tutors for the international and national students of degree programmes starting their studies here in August!

Tutors are very impactful to student life and are an important source of guidance, updates, and fun especially for incoming international students, who will need all the help they need when they start their new lives in Finland!

The application period for new tutors is 22 January – 5 February. Fill in TREYs application form which you can find on TREY’s website at trey.fi/tutoring (link in bio). Come along to do important work! 💛
