Our four-year Research Council of Finland research project Transnational and Ecological Perspectives on Nordic Soundtracks (TRANSECNORD) held its inaugural meeting today at Turku University’s Arcanum building. The project got off to an inspiring start with all of its researchers taking part. Also present was a distinguished guest, Professor Emeritus Richard Dyer, whose thoughtful responses to presentations definitely helped us to calibrate our plans. The project’s PI is prof John Richardson. Salaried researchers are Dr Kaapo Huttunen, adjunct prof Lasse Lehtonen and adjunct prof Anna-Elena Pääkkölä. Also present were University of Turku participating staff members prof Hannu Salmi and Adjunct profs Kimmo Laine and Milla Tiainen. Watch this space for further updates about our plans.
Transnational and Ecological Perspectives on Nordic Soundtracks is a four-year research project that will shed new light on Nordic soundtrack practices with a dual focus on transnationalism and ecology. The project covers a wide range of screen practices and responds to the growing global interest in Nordic screen practices by illuminating the role of soundtracks in producing and contesting cultural meanings.
