⏰ Vielä ehdit: Hoitotieteiden tutkimusseura HTTS ry Varsinais-Suomen aluetoimikunta järjestää urapolkuiltapäivän 30.9.2026

💬 Tervetuloa kuulemaan hoitotieteen uratarinoita 30. syyskuuta 2026 kello 16.30. Aiheesta alustavat laitokselta valmistuneet terveystieteiden tohtorit ja maisterit Heidi Parisod, Susanne Klemets, Kati Naamanka ja Outi Konsell, jotka ovat sijoittuneet laajasti erilaisiin ja mielenkiintoisiin tehtäviin valmistumisensa jälkeen. Alustukset sisältävät keskustelua ja verkostoitumista yhdessä osallistujien kanssa. Tarjoamme alkoholitonta kuohuvaa ja pientä syötävää.

Tapahtuma järjestetään nyt neljättä kertaa ja se on suunnattu hoitotieteen opiskelijoille, terveysalan opiskelijoille, työssä oleville hoitotyön ammattilaisille. Osallistuminen on maksutonta.

🎉 Yliopiston avajaisjuhlassa jaettiin Turun Suomalaisen Yliopistoseuran väitöskirjapalkinnot. Yliopistoseura myönsi palkinnot viime lukuvuoden aikana valmistuneille väitöskirjoille, joiden taso on poikkeuksellisen korkea.

🏆 TtT Pere Bosch-Barceló (hoitotiede, lääketieteellinen tiedekunta) sai palkinnon väitöskirjastaan The Efficacy of a Gamified Virtual Reality Environment Combined with tDCS in Treadmill-Based Gait Rehabilitation for Parkinson’s Disease.

Väitöskirjan ohjaajina toimivat dosentti Anni Pakarinen Hoitotieteen laitoksen Älykäs terveys -tutkimuksenalaohjelmasta, professori Katja Joronen sekä Helena Fernandez Lago Espanjan Lleidan yliopistosta.

🎉 At the University Opening Ceremony, the Turku Finnish University Society's doctoral dissertation awards were presented. The Society granted the awards to doctoral dissertations completed during the previous academic year that were deemed to be of exceptionally high quality.

🏆 PhD Pere Bosch-Barceló (Nursing Science, Faculty of Medicine) received an award for his doctoral dissertation, The Efficacy of a Gamified Virtual Reality Environment Combined with tDCS in Treadmill-Based Gait Rehabilitation for Parkinson’s Disease.

The dissertation was supervised by Adjunct Professor Anni Pakarinen from the Intelligent Health Research Programme at the Department of Nursing Science, Professor Katja Joronen, and Helena Fernandez Lago from the University of Lleida, Spain.

The Department of Nursing Science congratulates DHS Pere Bosch-Barceló and his supervisors on this achievement. 💐

PhD candidates and a postdoc researcher from the Department of Nursing Science at the University of Turku participated in the 2026 Yonsei International Nursing Conference (YINC 2026), held in Seoul, South Korea, on 20–21 August 2026. The conference brought together participants from 26 countries and approximately 180 universities, institutions, and organisations.

🌟 The University of Turku research team contributed several presentations:
• Xiaolan D**g – Co-Designing a Serious Game Concept: Applying a Design Thinking Approach to Dietary Management in Children with Leukaemia (Oral presentation)
• Jenna Poraharju – Understanding Symptom-Related Experiences of Living with Multiple Sclerosis to Inform the Design of a Social Prescribing Intervention (Rapid poster)
• Yunsuk Jeon – Risk-Care Competence Among Anaesthesia Nurses in Finland (E-poster)
• Saija Inkeroinen – The Relationship Between Patients’ Right to Know and Empowering Patient Education: A Cross-Sectional Study of Patients with Cancer (E-poster); and Patient-Centered Quality of Nursing Care: Educational Support as an Important Factor, presented on behalf of Professor Helena Leino-Kilpi and colleagues (E-poster)

After the conference, Professor Sanghee Kim and her team warmly invited the UTU Nursing Science team for further academic exchange and a visit, giving us the opportunity to learn more about nursing research and education at Yonsei University.

💬 YINC 2026 offered a valuable opportunity to share our research, exchange ideas with international colleagues, gain new perspectives on nursing science, and strengthen connections for future collaboration.

The 26th International Nursing Ethics Conference was held in Regina, Canada, on August 27–28, 2026. 🇨🇦 Faculty of Nursing University of Regina University of Regina The conference brought together researchers, educators, and healthcare professionals from different countries to discuss current topics in nursing and healthcare ethics.

💬 The “Ethics in Healthcare and Nursing” research programme at the Department of Nursing Science, University of Turku, was represented by Professor Mari Kangasniemi, Postdoctoral Researcher Karoliina Nikula, Doctoral Researcher Anniina Seere, and MHSc Katja Iskala. They presented their research and participated in discussions with colleagues working on nursing ethics in different countries.

Finland was also wonderfully represented by Maria Björkmark, PhD, University Lecturer at Åbo Akademi University in Vaasa. 🇫🇮

🌍 The two conference days offered a good opportunity to hear about ongoing research, discuss shared questions, meet new colleagues, and strengthen international connections.

Professori Kimmo Lehtonen in Memoriam

Turun yliopiston lääketieteellisessä tiedekunnassa hoitotieteellinen koulutus ja tutkimus käynnistyivät syksyllä vuonna 1986, 40 vuotta sitten.

Hoitotieteen ensimmäisenä, virkaa tekevänä professorina toimi ensimmäisen vuoden kasvatustieteiden tohtori Kimmo Lehtonen, joka menehtyi 12.5.2026.

Hoitotieteen alkuvaiheen professorina Kimmo Lehtosella oli keskeinen rooli uuden opetussuunnitelman käyttöönotossa, opiskelijoiden ohjaamisessa sekä oppialan hallinnollisessa järjestäytymisessä lääketieteelliseen tiedekuntaan. Kimmolla oli asiaan liittyvä pedagoginen osaaminen ja hänen oma tutkimustoimintansa kohdentui musiikkiterapiaan, jonka alalla hän myöhemmin oli yksi maamme keskeisistä tutkijoista ja kehittäjistä. Hänen laaja-alainen, rauhallinen ja sivistynyt otteensa oli omiaan innostamaan alan uusia opiskelijoita.

Kimmo Lehtonen oli osallisena myös hoitotieteen alkuaikana käynnistyneeseen kansainvälistymiseen. Turun yliopisto pyysi Maailman terveysjärjestöltä (WHO) tukea uuden koulutuksen kehittämiseen ja WHO nimesi kansainväliseksi asiantuntijaksi professori Phyllis Jonesin Toronton yliopistosta Kanadasta. Professori Jones ja Turun yliopiston silloinen rehtori Arje Scheinin solmivat yhteistyösopimuksen hoitotieteen kehittämiseksi Turun yliopistossa. Kimmo Lehtonen isännöi tähän liittyen omalla hienolla tavallaan ensimmäistä professori Jonesin vierailua maassamme.

Hoitotieteellinen koulutus käynnistyi terveysalan opettajankoulutuksella ja Kimmo Lehtosen rooli yhteistyössä lääketieteellisen ja kasvatustieteellisen tiedekunnan kanssa Turun yliopistossa oli niinikään alkavalle koulutukselle erityisen tärkeää. Hänellä oli kyky yhdistää ihmisiä niin yliopiston kahdesta tiedekunnasta kuin silloisesta Turun terveydenhuolto-oppilaitoksesta, jossa tulevat opettajat suorittivat opetusharjoitteluaan.

Myöhemmin Kimmo Lehtonen jatkoi yhteistyötä hoitotieteen laitoksen kanssa osallistumalla väitöskirjaohjauksiin ja jakamalla pyydettäessä asiantuntemustaan. Hänen osaamisensa esimerkiksi lasten ja nuorten piirustusten analyysissa on ollut joillekin väitöskirjatutkijoille korvaamaton.

Kiitämme lämpimästi vt professori Kimmo Lehtosta hänen työstään sekä hoitotieteen alkuvuosina että myöhemmin Turun yliopistossa.

🌟 Inspiring days in Turku at the doctoral course Mixed Methods Research in Nursing Science, organized through a collaboration between the University of Turku and the University of Eastern Finland within the Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science.

💬 Researchers engaged in lively discussions on mixed methods research, and we were privileged to learn from Assistant Professor Ahtisham Younas (Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada), whose lectures covered the full spectrum of mixed methods research, from theoretical foundations and methodological approaches to reporting.

💙 Many thanks to all participants. The course leaders were Professor Minna Stolt (University of Turku) and Professor Tarja Kvist (University of Eastern Finland).

Tervetuloa joukkoon uudet opiskelijat! 💚

Kolmipäiväiset orientaatiopäivät ovat nyt takanapäin, ja Cursus Exsecratio Victoris on käynnistänyt opintopolkunsa kohti terveystieteiden maisterin tutkintoa.✨🎓

Orientaatiopäivien aikana opiskelijat pääsivät tutustumaan tarkemmin hoitotieteen opintoihin ja yliopistossa opiskeluun yleisesti sekä tarjolla oleviin tuen ja ohjauksen muotoihin ja yliopiston palveluihin. Päivät päättyivät yhteen yliopiston perinteistä, yliopiston rehtorin Marjo Kaartisen kättelyyn ja tervetulotoivotukseen.

Mukana orientaatiopäivissä olivat tietysti myös mahtavat tuutorimme ja ainejärjestömme Adaptus! Kiitos myös yliopiston kuorolle juhlallisesta opintojen aloituksesta! 🎉

Lämpimät onnittelut vielä kerran uusille opiskelijoille opiskelupaikasta – tästä se lähtee!

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming new students with an
orientation program.✨

During the orientation days, students had the opportunity to become more familiar with Nursing science studies, university life in general, as well as the various support and guidance services and other university resources available to them. The days concluded with one of the university’s cherished traditions: welcome address from the Rector of the University, Marjo Kaartinen.

Of course, our amazing tutors and our student association, Adaptus, were also part of the orientation days! A special thank you as well to the university choir for the ceremonial opening of the academic year! 🎉

🌏🇩🇰 We are pleased to welcome Signe Unmack Larsen from University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Forensic Psychiatric Unit, Middelfart, for at two-week research stay with us.

Signe’s own research focuses on coercion towards children and adolescents, and during her visit she is spending time at the child and adolescent mental health departments here in Turku and in Helsinki as well. Together, we are collaborating on Nordic research into the use of coercive measures against adults in mental health care, exchanging methods, insights and ideas across out institutions.

We look forward to continuing this collaboration and to developing it further within the child and Adolescent field.

Kivun hoitotyön täydennyskoulutus (30 op) on Turun yliopiston hoitotieteen laitoksen tarjoama ammatillinen, hoitotyöntekijöille suunnattu maksullinen täydennyskoulutus, joka toteutetaan yhteistyössä Suomen Kivuntutkimusyhdistyksen hoitotyön toimikunnan kanssa.

Postaussarja jatkuu tällä viikolla taas ainejärjestö Adaptuksen luomilla perinteillä!🎊

Adaptus alkoi jo varhain rakentaa hoitotieteen opiskelijoille omia tapahtumia ja yhteisiä perinteitä. Vuosien aikana ainejärjestön toimintaan ovat kuuluneet muun muassa Fetuskastajaiset, Skumppaa & vaahtokarkkei -tapahtuma sekä erilaiset sitsit, viini-ilta ja vuosijuhlat. Adaptuksen 40v. vuosijuhlia vietetäänkin ensi vuonna! Tapahtumat ovat tuoneet opiskelijoita yhteen myös luentosalien ulkopuolella ja rakentaneet vahvaa yhteishenkeä hoitotieteen opiskelijoiden keskuudessa.

Ensi viikolla tapahtumat jälleen käynnistyvät, kun uudet opiskelijat liittyvät joukkoomme! 💚

This week, the post series continues with the traditions created by the student association Adaptus! 🎊

Adaptus began early on to build its own events and shared traditions for nursing science students. Over the years, the association’s activities have included, among others, Fetus initiation events, the “Skumppaa & vaahtokarkkei” event, as well as various sitsit (academic dinner parties), a wine evening, and the annual ball. Adaptus will in fact celebrate its 40th anniversary next year! These events have brought students together outside lecture halls and fostered a strong sense of community among nursing science students.
