Digital transformation is not about technology for technology’s sake.

Europe has set ambitious goals for 2030: more than 90% of SMEs should reach at least a basic level of digital intensity, and 75% of EU companies should use cloud services, big data analysis, or AI.

Yet the gap between adoption and capability remains clear. In 2024, 73% of SMEs had reached basic digital intensity, while only 22% of EU businesses provided ICT skills training to their staff. This shows that digital transformation is not only a technology challenge. It is a learning, implementation, and organisational change challenge.

At , we approach digital transformation as an enabler of sustainable impact. Digital tools can help organisations understand data, trace resources, scale learning, strengthen collaboration, and support circular economy strategies.

But technology only creates value when people know how to use it responsibly, strategically, and in context.

Because the future of digital transformation is not just about adopting tools. It is about building the capabilities to turn them into meaningful change.

Today, ReScore is marking World Environment Day, a global moment for climate action, hope, and collective responsibility.

The message for this year's World Environment Day is “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”, reminds us that nature is inextricably linked to our daily lives. It influences how we learn, travel, consume, manage resources, and build healthier communities.

For ReScore, this message speaks directly to grassroots football. ReScore is reimagining the way European grassroots football is scored from a sustainability and circular economy perspective. Through education, collaboration, and practical tools, the project works to enhance the sustainability of grassroots football clubs by promoting circular economy and sustainability values among coaches, managers, and young athletes. From local pitches to local ecosystems, every choice matters.

Climate action can begin in a club's everyday life: reducing waste, rethinking resource use, choosing greener travel options, supporting sustainable apparel, establishing circular habits, and transforming football spaces into community hubs for environmental responsibility.

Every club can make a difference.
Every coach can influence attitudes.
Every young athlete can make sustainable choices that extend beyond the game.

This World Environment Day, ReScore is joining the call for action, hope and practical change, one club, one community and one generation at a time.

Europe’s green transition depends not only on clean technologies, but on the materials that make them possible.

Lithium is one of the clearest examples. It is essential for batteries used in electric vehicles, energy storage, and digital infrastructure. According to the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, lithium demand for batteries is expected to grow fivefold by 2030 and rise 14-fold by 2040, compared with 2020 levels.

This is not only a supply challenge. It is a circular economy challenge. The European Critical Raw Materials Act sets 2030 benchmarks to strengthen Europe’s raw materials value chains, including 25% of annual EU needs for strategic raw materials from recycling. It also highlights the importance of skills, innovation, and a more sustainable and circular raw materials economy.

For lithium and other critical materials, circularity means designing products for longer life, improving collection and traceability, scaling high-quality recycling and creating viable business models for reuse and recovery. The JRC also highlights circular economy strategies such as extending battery lifespans, reuse, remanufacturing, second use, recycling, traceability and circular business cases.

At , this is where applied research and education meet. Our work supports organisations in translating circular economy principles into practical strategies: circular design, digital traceability, stakeholder engagement, circular business modelling and value creation.

Because the future of clean technology will not depend only on what Europe can extract. It will depend on what Europe can keep in circulation.

On International Day for Biodiversity, ReScore recognises that protecting nature starts with everyday community action.

The EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, Bringing nature back into our lives, is a core part of the . It aims to put Europe’s biodiversity on a path to recovery by 2030, including through stronger protected areas, ecosystem restoration, greener urban spaces, reduced pollution and more sustainable use of resources.

Grassroots sport can contribute to this transition. Through ReScore, we are re-imagining European grassroots football as a space for sustainability education, circular economy learning and community engagement. The project’s objective is to enhance the sustainability of grassroots football clubs by educating coaches, managers and young athletes in circular economy and sustainability values.

From local pitches to local ecosystems, every choice matters: how we travel, consume, manage waste, use resources and engage young people in environmental responsibility.
