WINTER LECTURE SERIES: WEEK 2
Join us for a talk by Dr Marcel Garboś on Federal concepts in Marxist thoughts and politics 1847-1923.
5pm, NK11, 8th October

This presentation traces a genealogy of Marxist engagements with diverse federal currents between the great revolutionary waves of 1848-49 and 1917-23, highlighting the centrality of underlying visions of developmental geography and historical progress to debates about sovereignty and political decentralization.

TOMORROW:
The first of our winter lecture series is presented by Dr Thomas Weber: The World Wars of Disinformation and Demagoguery, Then and Now

If you’d like to come along, join us in NK11 at 5pm!
*free event*

Abstract: In this talk, Thomas Weber challenges the idea that we are currently experiencing a rise of global fascism. Instead, he proposes that the same drivers of democratic and civilizational breakdown that brought the world to the gates of hell between the 1920s and 1940s are flourishing again.
Once again, they are destroying liberal democracy and the fabrics of our societies once again, amidst a new world war of disinformation and demagoguery.

Join an interdisciplinary workshop and learn more about the skies above us 🌌🌚 Registration & more info in our stories/highlights and here: https://dark-skies-exploration.github.io (reg deadline 25th June!)🫡
The workshop will explore this theme from a multidisciplinary perspective. In the context of the humanities, we will ask how the experience of being exposed to skies unpolluted by artificial light shaped the development of human culture, religion, and science in antiquity. 🙌
Modern sciences will bring other pertinent questions, such as what the term ‘dark sky’ actually means in terms of physics, or how light pollution affects fauna, flora, and humans. 🔭
Further, legal and ethical aspects of light pollution will be discussed in the context of policymaking. ⚖️
