Over the last three days, more than 400 young people graduated from this year’s Access To programme. 🎓

Each year, Access To provides S5 and S6 pupils from across the North East the opportunity to take part in practical, subject-based workshops led by RGU staff. Designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and broaden horizons, the programme helps young people explore pathways into higher education and look into future careers they may not have previously considered.

Yesterday, the RGU community came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Professor John Harper, who retired as RGU Principal five years ago and who sadly passed earlier this year.

John's journey at RGU spanned 47 years, from lecturer to Principal reflecting his unwavering dedication to the University and its community.

An event held on campus brought together invited guests to celebrate John's life and legacy, featuring tribute speeches and videos from colleagues, friends and those whose lives he touched throughout his career.

In remembrance of Professor John Harper, we will be naming the walkway from our Riverside Building to Garthdee House 'The John Harper Way'. New benches, special plantings and a dedicated dog watering area will also be added to this special place.

A Book of Remembrance is available for signing until the end of October by emailing [email protected]

🆕 Researchers from Robert Gordon University are helping develop new ways to protect the UK's trees, woodlands and forests from the growing threat of disease through a major national research project.

🌳 RGU is part of the ADAPTREE Project, a national collaboration led by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The initiative aims to help communities, land managers and policymakers prepare for future disease outbreaks that could affect trees across the UK.

This Black History Month, we're "Honouring our Communities" by celebrating the people that make RGU such a diverse and welcoming place to study and work.

In this spotlight, Dr Chioma Onoshakpor, Lecturer in Management and Entrepreneurship and RGU's Race Equality Staff Champion, reflects on the communities that have shaped her journey, the importance of belonging, and how small everyday actions can help create a more inclusive environment for everyone.

From the influence of her family and cultural heritage to her work championing equality and inclusion, Chioma shares why strong communities are built on connection, mutual support and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
