🚀 Exciting Research Alert! 🌿🔬

Dr. Hannah Vallin, a postdoctoral research assistant at IBERS, has published her first principle-author paper in Ecology and Evolution! 🎉

Her study explores DNA metabarcoding as a scalable alternative to traditional quadrat-based botanical surveys for assessing plant diversity in grasslands.

🔍 Key Findings:
✅ DNA metabarcoding detected 25 taxa vs. 16 from traditional surveys
✅ It offers higher taxonomic resolution and can detect species year-round
✅ Less time in the field, more efficient biodiversity monitoring!

📌 While DNA metabarcoding provides a broader view of biodiversity, it remains semi-quantitative, meaning precise species abundance estimates are still a challenge. However, it shows huge potential when used alongside traditional methods for ecosystem monitoring!
