Ysgol Feddygol / Medical School

Ysgol Feddygol / Medical School The North Wales Medical School at Bangor University is the focus for medical, biomedical, and pharmaceutical education.

Research centers focus on medicines evaluation, palliative care, clinical trials, health economics, cancer biology, and pharmacology. We are the focus of medical education and research at Bangor University. Our teaching enables students to develop, integrate and apply their knowledge at the interface of scientific discovery and clinical practice. We have excellent research and teaching links with

the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, one of the largest in the UK, and a world-leading cancer research facility, the North West Cancer Research Institute, enabling students to experience cutting-edge teaching and research. Our undergraduate programmes:

Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) (3 years) (IBMS Accredited)
Biomedical Science with Foundation year BSc (Hons) (4 years) (IBMS Accredited)
Medical Sciences BMedSci (Hons) (3 years)
Medical Sciences with Foundation Year BMedSci (Hons) (4 years)
Pharmacology BSc (Hons) (3 years)
Pharmacology with Foundation year BSc (Hons) (4 years)
Medicine (BMBS) (5 years)
Graduate entry to medicine (BMBS) (4 years)

Under a feeder stream agreement, on successful completion of the BMed Sci students are eligible to apply for the four-year graduate entry to medicine programme. Please note to apply for this programme you will need to fulfil all their additional criteria which includes but not limited to specific ordinary and advanced level 2 and 3 achievement and successful completion of an entrance exam. We also offer a range of postgraduate taught courses including those aimed at doctors, health professionals and professions allied to medicine, as well as NHS-funded programmes including Physician Associate Studies. Many programmes offer multiple exit points to suit individual circumstances. These programmes are grounded in modern medical practice and taught by staff that often hold joint appointments with the NHS. This gives our students an excellent level of exposure to practising clinicians and a real insight into current practice and probably explains why our graduates are highly regarded by major employers. Take a look at our website, follow us on Twitter or get in touch to find out more. We hope that this information has helped in learning more about what Bangor has to offer and that you're interested in applying to study here. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about our Academic Schools, subjects or university life in general.

Wythnos diwethaf, buom yn ymweld ag Ysgol Llanllyfni i lansio ein prosiect iechyd cymunedol cyn Ysbyty Tedi Bêr dydd Llun yn Fron Heulog, Prifysgol Bangor 🏥💬

Ymunodd Dr Nia Jones, Dr Dan Evans, Llinos Williams, Sarah Zanellan a’r tîm â disgyblion am gyflwyniad ymarferol llawn hwyl i iechyd a lles — yn cynnwys:
🦴 Peiriant pelydr-X cartref (taro enfawr!)
🫁 Gweithgareddau model organ
💬 Sgyrsiau am sut i gadw’n iach

Mae hyn yn fwy nag ymweliad yn unig—mae’n rhan o’n cenhadaeth i ysbrydoli meddyliau ifanc yn gynnar a chryfhau ymgysylltiad cymunedol ag addysg iechyd. Ddydd Llun, bydd myfyrwyr yn rhannu eu cyflwyniadau eu hunain ar “Sut i Aros yn Iach” ac yn cymryd rhan mewn gweithdai meddygol rhyngweithiol - o CPR i iechyd meddwl a mwy. 💡🩺

Rydyn ni’n gyffrous i’w croesawu i Fron Heulog am ddiwrnod a allai danio oes o chwilfrydedd a gofal! 🌱

Last week, we visited Ysgol Llanllyfni to launch our community health project ahead of Monday’s Teddy Bear Hospital at Fron Heulog, Bangor University 🏥💬

Dr Nia Jones, Dr Dan Evans, Llinos Williams, Sarah Zanellan and the team joined pupils for a fun, hands-on introduction to health and wellbeing — featuring:
🦴 A homemade X-ray machine (huge hit!)
🫁 Organ model activities
💬 Conversations about how to stay healthy

This is more than just a visit — it’s part of our mission to inspire young minds early and strengthen community engagement in health education. On Monday, students will share their own presentations on “How to Stay Healthy” and take part in interactive medical workshops — from CPR to mental health and more. 💡🩺

We’re excited to welcome them to Fron Heulog for a day that could spark a lifetime of curiosity and care! 🌱

It's the most exciting day of the year for our second year medical students at Bangor University : Rural Health Day! 🩺⛰️

Real emergency service crews attend the day and share their knowledge and skills with students who then work through simulations with both mannikins and real actors who act as patients.

Take a look at the video from last year's event to see what kind of thing they get up to and stay tuned to get a peak of how 2025 is going to be bigger and better!
