Remembering a stalwart of the Bangor Bird Group. Enid Griffith (102 years of age!) attended meetings of the North Wales Wildlife Trust, RSPB Cymru, Cambrian Ornithological Society, Alpine Garden Society and the National Trust. She was also a big supporter of Treborth Botanic Garden/Gardd Fotaneg Treborth and attended bird group lectures well into her 90s. 🫡 You are never too old or too young to 🐦(Photo by group sec Steve Culley) The Bangor bird group meets Bangor University every month, all welcome to join.

New Queen* in the hive today! A result of supercedure whereby bees select a new queen without swarming. Our Conservation & Land Management MSc students get to learn about beekeeping and this is the first time we've seen this on a field visit. Today is the 99th (!) birthday of one of the world's greatest naturalists and one of Bangor University’s most famous honorary graduates – Sir David Attenborough!

Sir David is the stand out personality mentioned in our applicant personal statements as their greatest inspiration to study the natural world.
On receiving his honorary degree here he also praised Bangor University saying: “This university has a superb reputation in the study of environmental and marine science. The world needs people skilled in the expertise and research needed to play a crucial part in solving the world's problems.”

If Sir David has inspired your interest in the wonders of the natural world show your support – or simply like or share. Students at Bangor University learn from the best! This week our postgraduate Conservation students were introduced to renowned botanist (and alumni!) Dr Trevor Dines. Trevor lives in North Wales and regulary helps teach our conservation students. One of Trevors epic achievements was to collate a ‘New Atlas of the British and Irish Flora’ for the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland) collating nine million records from volunteers to map over 4,000 species of plants in the wild. Trevor also came up with the movt! Read about Trevor here (https://trevorthebotanist.com/about/) Trevor is standing just off centre in orange tee-shirt and cap. Thanks for passing on your expertise to the next generation Dr Dines! Treborth Botanic Garden/Gardd Fotaneg Treborth Conservation at Bangor
