Turning always seems to reveal some beautiful aspects of timber, knots in wood give such personality to bowls.

Working with the grain of the bowl to accentuate the curvature allows for a really beautiful finish, all is considered in the first steps in cutting up the log. I have learnt a lot from wood turning 🌳

The first of a series of wood turns from European cherry timber locally sourced from our Newton Park campus.

It has been a fantastic learning curve on how to develop my own style in turning, achieving a professional finish utilising a homemade blend of beeswax and mineral oil.

With a simple string attachment, Halcyon can be hung up or tied onto wherever necessary.

The packaging consists of FSC certified recycled brown card to compliment the natural tones of the birdhouse. Soon to be available at local artisan markets around Bath.

Due to its natural scent and texture, when I was in the forest birds were very curious of Halcyon. There are a few different ways of mounting the bird houses, expressed in the lino prints on the packaging.
