ASE Staff on Break! Swipe to see what the team gets up to while we wait for the arrival of our Summer 2026 cohort – you might see some sheep. 🐏

Whenever the sun is out in the UK, everyone is out enjoying the sunshine. This May bank holiday weekend, the team made sure to make the most out of the glorious weather, visiting England’s stunning coast and countryside, or simply sitting back and relaxing... 😌

Even in June/July, the British weather is a tad unpredictable - but we hope to enjoy more British blue skies with our incoming Summer School students!

Happy Climate Awareness Month 🌍✨
To celebrate, ASE is sharing a climate fiction reading list curated with recommendations from the wonderful team . Kate and Sôffi have put together some incredible picks for the community, including:

The Wall by John Lanchester - a dystopian novel in which a young man serves on a massive coastal barrier protecting Britain from climate-driven floods and “Others,” exploring fear, exclusion, and survival in a fractured world.

Arborescence by Rhett Davis- a surreal novel about a young woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with trees, using that fixation to explore identity, isolation, and the porous boundary between human and natural worlds.

Aerth by Deborah Tomkins- a haunting piece of climate fiction set in a rewilded, post-collapse world, where one woman’s journey through a fragile new landscape blurs the line between survival and belonging

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy- a gripping story set on a remote, fragile island, where rising seas and buried secrets collide, blurring the line between survival, love, and what we owe the natural world

For more recommendations, feel free to check out Mr. B’s Emporium. Happy reading everyone!

Looking for your next read? We’ve got you sorted 😉

In commemoration of International Women’s Day ♀️ , we asked some of our Sp26 tutors for book suggestions that challenge gender stereotypes, shine a light on women’s struggles for equality, and examine how their gender identity intersects with sexuality, class, and race – some dating back to the 17th Century!

A big thank you to ASE’s tutors, Dr Leila Kamali, Dr Sarah Sigal, Dr Debby Thacker, and Dr Sebrina Varley. Your contributions made this post possible.

Which one are you adding to your TBR?

Hi! My name is Mimi, the Social Media Assistant for this semester , and welcome to the Side Quest Series!

Each week, with the help of ASE’s Social and Cultural weekly bulletin, I’ll be exploring hidden gems in and around Bath, from community events to spontaneous city wanderings! I am super excited to see what life at ASE has in store for me to bring you all along for the ride!

Starting off strong, this week’s side quest was Pint & A laugh at The Jester🎤🍻, a cozy underground comedy club where we watched local comedians try out new material. It was fun to chat with the locals and giggle at my friend who was PRAYING not to get called out during the show (spoiler: she was).

Be sure to follow along for more side quests!

Brandeis University and Wellesley College - Are you ready to find Cecilia today? 🙌

Jonathan hid a few C-Gull stickers while visiting your campuses. Look at the clues and find them before they fly away. 🪽

Oh, and don’t forget to DM a pic of your newfound treasure. 📷

Hi everyone! My name is Neha Edison, and I will be taking over the Instagram this week to share my life in Bath and ASE.
I am from Boston, Massachusetts, and I am a junior at Brandeis University, double majoring in English and Secondary Education. During my free time I enjoy baking, reading, and spending quality time with friends and family 💕
While in Bath, I am really excited to take incredible courses with amazing faculty, explore different parts of the city, and go on little adventures (getting lost and finding my way back definitely counts😌).
Follow along for day-in-the-life moments, Bath adventures, ASE experiences, and a few fun recipes. Hope you all join me this week!
