TEF Gold for third time in 2023. Five-time winner of Best Small or Specialist Provider at the WUSCAs. Norland University of Early Childhood is the world’s first specialist early years university. Founded in 1892, Norland has been delivering early childhood education and training to students to enable them to become highly knowledgeable and skilled early years professionals. Undergraduates study for a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Education and Care alongside the practical Norland diploma in the beautiful city of Bath leading to the prestigious title of Norland Nanny. Postgraduates study for an MA Early Childhood Education and Care with specialisms in home-based pedagogy and care, sleep hygiene, supporting behaviour and food and nutrition. Norland Agency works exclusively with Norland Nannies, placing them in employment with families all over the world. All nannies and maternity nurses placed through Norland Agency have completed a 12-hour Paediatric First Aid course in the last three years and have an up-to-date DBS check. Norland Agency also checks and verifies all references prior to placing a Norland Nanny in a new position to ensure that the standards expected are upheld. Norland's early childhood consultants partner with schools, nurseries, employers, governments, charities and hospitality brands across the UK and internationally to raise the quality of education and care children receive, particularly in their first three years, a period that shapes future outcomes. Every programme is tailored to the client’s needs. For example, our consultants may work alongside leaders and staff to audit provision, benchmark it against best practice and design training that builds confidence and consistency. Drawing on more than 130 years of early childhood expertise and the standards behind the Norland Quality Mark, this bespoke, evidence-led approach delivers measurable improvements for babies, children, families and the organisations that support them.

We love seeing how Norland learning comes to life beyond the classroom!

Elle, a Newly Qualified Nanny (NQN), has been putting the sewing skills developed during her three years at Norland into practice in her first full-time role, creating this adorable dog toy for her charge’s first birthday. 🐶🧵

Inspired by her charge’s love of dogs, she designed and made ‘Darcy Dog’, complete with a removable harness. Darcy has already become a firm favourite and even joins them as her charge practises walking!

The NQN year is the final module of the Norland diploma, enabling students to continue their learning and professional development as a probationary nanny. The successful completion of the diploma leads to the award of Norland Nanny status.

It’s a lovely example of how our NQNs draw on their knowledge, practical skills and creativity to develop thoughtful resources that respond to the individual children in their care. 🤎

We were thrilled to be a hub for Sustainable Fashion Week again this year! ✨

From fabric badge-making to visible mending and upcycling pre-loved clothing, there was plenty to get stuck into at our Sustainable Fashion Week workshops.

Guided by Norland’s sewing lecturers, supported by our students and visible mending specialist Little Moth Mends, attendees explored new skills, got creative and discovered simple ways to make clothes last longer.

Thank you to all those who attended and supported the event, and for helping raise money for Labour Behind the Label!

Last week, we were delighted to welcome students from Seitoku University in Japan to our Oldfield Park teaching campus. 🏫

The visit brought together students and staff from both Norland and Seitoku for a day of cultural exchange, connection and shared learning. As part of their childhood and education studies, Seitoku University students learned more about Norland's unique history, philosophy and approach to early childhood education, while meeting Norland students who volunteered their time to support the visit.

Through a range of childhood-inspired activities and discussions, students from both universities had the opportunity to share ideas, explore different approaches to childhood and education, and build international connections with like-minded future professionals.

Second-year Norland student Poppy said: “It was lovely to meet the students from Seitoku University and introduce them to different types of play, including Oobleck, shaving foam, biscuit and cupcake decorating and Dough Disco. I enjoyed learning some Japanese, sharing experiences and working alongside fellow Norland students too. It was a special opportunity to learn from one another and I hope to be involved again in the future.”

We have been welcoming students from Seitoku University since 2014 and are proud to continue building relationships with organisations that share our commitment to advancing childhood and education.

A huge thank you to our students and staff who helped make the visit such a success. 👏

Research spotlight 💡

Earlier this year at the annual Norland Research Conference 2026, Pollyanna Whitehead, Early Years Lecturer presented "Entangled identities of care: early years practitioners becoming mothers".

The event brought together staff, academics and students to share current research and explore how scholarship is advancing understandings of early childhood.

Pollyanna's presentation explored the complex identity shift that can occur when early years practitioners become mothers, contributing to important conversations around care, professional identity and lived experience.

Meet the team behind Norland University of Early Childhood! 👋

Before the start of the new academic year, staff came together for an away day to reflect on the successes of the past year, look ahead to the opportunities and ambitions of the year to come, and strengthen connections through team-building activities.

From supporting students and conducting research to delivering professional services and shaping strategic priorities, it was a valuable opportunity to get together ahead of the new year and reflect on the role we all play in supporting students, graduates, research and the wider community.
