Queen's University Belfast OTC was set up to counter rising Irish Nationalism.

A member of the Officer Training Corps, Trinity College, Dublin guards the entrance, two other soldiers from various units (one may even be AIF) stand at the gates.

Trinity College OTC had played a central role in the successful defence of Trinity College, a strategic location in Dublin, also the centre of their own drill hall and armoury. It had been one of the objectives for the rebels. Trinity College soon became a central marshalling point for British forces rallying into Dublin.

The creation of Trinity College OTC (Dublin), Royal College of Surgeons OTC (Dublin), and Queen's University OTC (Belfast) was an effort on behalf of loyalists and largely Unionist (Ascendency) institutions to counter the rise of Irish Nationalism and the Irish nationalist narrative. As well as to provide a training source for future Army officers. They were a small but significant presence, amongst rising tensions on all sides.

Both Trinity College OTC (Dublin), Royal College of Surgeons OTC's were very successful and attracted large numbers of cadets. Their time, however, was numbered, being disbanded on the creation of the Irish Free State, they went through three turbulent final years.

The Irish National Army attempted to revive them in the mid 1920's but their revival under the Irish flag was very short lived, the numbers of cadets attracted to them so few as to make them impractical, an interesting side note.
