School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen's University The School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work offers an exciting and wide range of courses.

The School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work has a strong emphasis on professional training in education and social work. In addition, the School is training the next generation of social scientists in the areas of sociology, criminology and social policy. Our research is focused on addressing social issues in society and providing best evidence and advice to policy makers and practitioners. Strong local partnerships and an international influence make the School a dynamic place to study or work. The School is also the home of the Open Learning short course programme. Our annual Queen’s Autumn Careers Fair will take place on Tuesday 13 October and Wednesday 14 October 2026, from 11am - 2:30pm. 🍂

🔴Day one: Tuesday 13 October, focus on Tech, Science and Engineering.
📍Venues: Mandela, Whitla and South Dining Halls.

🔴Day two: Wednesday 14 October, focus on Business, Finance & Law.
📍Venues: Whitla Hall and South Dining Hall.

This year’s Autumn Careers Fair's Premier Sponsors are Allstate and EY.

Queen's students can now register to attend the Autumn Careers Fair via our Careers portal MyFuture using your Queen's student login details to get access. Here you can visit exhibitor profiles, interest areas and job opportunities that are available for you to check out ahead of the event. You can also follow companies of interest in preparation for meeting them face to face at their stalls.

Quiet time during the Autumn Careers Fair:
To support the diverse needs of our students, this year’s Autumn Fair will feature a period of ‘quiet time’ from 2pm - 2:30pm on both days, when numbers will be restricted and noise levels reduced.

According to research from the Deloitte Impact Survey, 82% of hiring managers say they are more likely to choose a candidate who has volunteering experience on their CV.

Volunteering is a great way to develop employability skills, industry knowledge and professional networks. It also demonstrates your motivation, empathy, kindness and commitment.

Join a number of organisations relevant to Social Sciences, Education and Social Work who will each take ten minutes to pitch their volunteering opportunities to you. After the quick pitches, tea, coffee, and treats will be available - please feel free to have a cuppa and stay for an informal chat with any of the organisations/projects you might be interested in volunteering with.

Participating organisations include: the Education Authority, NIACRO, NSPCC/Childline & Young Witness, Praxis Care, and Sólás.

Earlier this week, we were delighted to launch the latest findings from the 2026 Kids’ Life and Times (KLT) and Young Life and Times (YLT) surveys.

The surveys provide a unique insight into the views and experiences of 10–11-year-olds and 16-year-olds across Northern Ireland.
