The ‘Heritage Skills Academy’ has been created to deliver Apprenticeships in Classic Vehicle Restoration. Our mission is to ensure that the traditional skills required to maintain and restore our Engineering heritage thrive and that the UK maintains its position as the centre for engineering excellence. The Academy brings together experts from across the Automotive Industry who are committed to te

aching the skills required to preserve and restore our Pre-war, Post-war and Modern automotive heritage. If you are interested in a career with excellent prospects and a reputation that could offer progression into engineering and management positions across the world, this is the place to start. We have over 25 years of experience in delivering world class Automotive Apprenticeships. The Academy is based at the ‘Bicester Heritage’ site in Oxfordshire; the UK’s first park for the restoration, storage and enjoyment of vintage and classic cars, motorcycles and aeroplanes. We also have a second site at Brooklands Museum in Surrey where our Apprentices on the Coachbuilding programme are based, along with a couple of Mechanical cohorts, which opened early in 2021.

Thank You to our apprentices James and George and staff members Paul and Rikki for supporting us with our stand at Brooklands Museum for American Day today! 🇺🇸

Our lovely Buick Roadmaster was placed centre stage, alongside a tutor’s Ford Ranchero pick-up, and the Buick attracted a lot of attention alongside items created and repaired by apprentices we are proud to display 🛠️

Good conversations were had about the apprenticeships and courses we offer - thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat! 🗣️

Mechanical cohort HSA24 and 4 apprentices from HSA20 on catch up were covering Ignition & Exhaust at our Brooklands Museum site this week ⚡️

They had a tour of the historic museum site plus a bonus trip on the Concorde experience to start the week then into the workshop!🛩️

Main tasks were individually refurbishing a distributor and setting air/fuel mixture with colortune - great work all! 👏🏼

A great week for Coachbuilding Cohort 7 down at Brooklands Museum designing and making their own aluminium fuel tanks! ⛽️

They each had to produce a technical drawing of their tank, calculate the volume to match the 1 UK gallon specification and dye test as they went along to ensure no leaks! ⛲️

All individual and creative designs completed - very well done all! Lots of skills and experience gained👏🏼

Last week we had HSA27 at the hub completing their first engine block! 🙌🏼

A great week for everyone, stripping, cleaning, examining, and rebuilding a variety of engines, including a Ford ‘Pinto’, a Triumph Spitfire, an A Series and DOHC Mazda. Also lots of Valve lapping, piston popping and block refacing 🛠️

We attended the F1 Centenary Event at yesterday!🏎️

What an amazing show - so much to see and hear with beautiful cars on display ranging from pre-war to modern through all the eras but also track time and live demonstrations! 👏🏼

A bit of a longer video to fit the whole day in, but watch to the end to see a surprise for our apprentice volunteers to get a passenger trip in the Arrol Aster they’re making aluminium wheel arches for! 🙌🏼

At the BRDC Classic over the past weekend at Silverstone Tim bumped into quite a few HSA apprentices, past and present, all busy at the sharp end practicing their trade.

It was great to see them and all had a moment to chat about their respective race cars and how they were getting on.

A great weekend of racing!

Picture 1: The Motus and Zip Silverstone 72 were restored at HSA! Both went onto win concours competitions and appeared as finalists in ‘Pride of the Paddock’ Race Retro show.

Picture 2: Former apprentice was preparing very quick Chevrolet for racing. Dropped by the Historic Kart display & Demonstration at the new FIA Karting Facility, sat in the Motus prepared by HSA apprentices last year.

It was a very successful day, the Rejo won its class as did the Bobtail Cooper also prepared by apprentices!

Our Engineering Hub was very busy recently with mechanical cohorts HSA23 and HSA20🛠️

⚙️ HSA23 had their Carburation & Air block delivered by tutor Paul. This included stripping and rebuilding carburettors, balancing and setting air/fuel mixture the ‘old school’ way with a ‘Colortune’. They also made use of our ultrasonic cleaner for squeaky clean results! 🤩🙌🏼

⚙️HSA20 had an engine block with tutor Richard. This included carrying out different engine tests - oil pressure, leak tests and cooling systems. Apprentices also did some fault finding and diagnostics, as well as different methods for valve repair 🔩

Well done to all of the apprentices for their hard work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Ah, Coachbuilding Cohort 6 - the last time you’re all together as you approach the end of your 3 year apprenticeship with us! 🤩

It’s been an absolute pleasure to meet and teach all of you - Aaron and Austen - you’ll be brilliant in your End Point Assessment in a couple of weeks - good luck! 👏🏼

We’ll see the remaining 8 of you at the end of August after the Bank Holiday for your last Block of training at Brooklands Museum , but seeing you all develop skills and confidence along with genuine friendships has been a real joy and you should all be very proud - from everyone at HSA - thank you and well done 🙌🏼
