CBOMGS is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Prof. Dame Averil Cameron on 7th April. Throughout her distinguished career—marked by field-defining research and the establishment of numerous events, societies, and seminars that form the bedrock of our discipline—Averil was a valued supporter of Byzantine Studies at Birmingham from its early days. She also played a formative role in integrating Byzantine Studies into the wider curriculum of the Graeco-Roman and medieval worlds across the UK.
Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and former colleagues around the world at this time.

BILNAS is able to offer a Wyvern-BILNAS Fellowship that provides up to £12,000 to support the writing-up of research within the framework of Artistic Exchange Along the Silk Roads: How did artistic motifs and materials from North Africa contribute to or evolve through interactions along the Silk Roads during the Byzantine and Medieval periods? The awards are explicitly intended to support early career scholars ordinarily resident in the UK (within 8 years of completion of their PhD) who have not yet been appointed to a permanent academic post, and who frequently lack the time and resources they need to publish their work"
