Student Pia and her team are working to break period stigma and improve access to safe menstrual products and education. With support from the Alumni Impact Fund, Project Menstrucate delivered menstrual health education sessions to 315 Year 5 and 6 girls and distributed 945 reusable pads via their 'Dignity Kits'.

The impact of this project includes:

📘 Education
Tackling shame and fear while building confidence and knowledge around periods in a safe, supportive space

♻️ Sustainability
The distributed reusable pads last for over 2 years, keeping over 100K single-use period products out of landfills

👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏾 Supporting communities
The pads were sourced from women in Jaipur, supporting their financial independence

🎓 Student Impact
Healthcare student volunteers gained invaluable experience, growing as communicators, collaborators, and compassionate future professionals

Congratulations to Pia, who won the Community Impact Award at the Guild of Students for her development and leadership of the project.

'Alumni funding gave me the opportunity to turn an idea into meaningful action, allowing me to expand the project’s reach and create tangible impact within the community.'

‘Because of Birmingham, I developed strong entrepreneurial skills to take forward as a graduate.’ 💼

Meet Kritesh, a graduate of MSc Management who has had support from a start-up scholarship to launch his company InStudents.

He said: ‘As someone who grew up in a small town, I know how limited access to resources can affect educational and career opportunities. This journey inspired me to start InStudents, with the goal of bridging the educational gap for students in semi-urban and rural regions, creating a sustainable, impact-driven system that makes quality education accessible to all.'

Help more young people study at Birmingham and use what they learn to make people’s lives better.
