The Debating Society is the oldest society at the University of Birmingham and one of the best. It provides people the chance to challenge what they know, develop their public speaking skills and meet like minded students.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if someone mixed love for toucans, gossip and debating?
The 1st equity officer for Birmingham ProAm- that's who!
Ellie is both an amazing friend and a great debater, judge and equity officer.
When she speaks, she speaks well including breaking to semis at Dillman IV 24, Zagreb pre-WUDC 24, and also to partial quarters at UCLA IV 24

While being 'just a judgemental lil girly' she managed to chair the open finals of Prague Open 24 and semis of Utrecht Open 24, panel the open quarters at Glasgow EUDC 24, and panel open finals at BOTH Oxford IV AND Cambridge IV 2024!
Ellie also proved herself to care about our wellbeing, while serving as the equity officer at Bristol ProAm 2024.
All in all, if you're coming to Birmingham ProAm this January, you're in good hands!

Happy Boxing Day eveyone, happy to announce our 2nd CA for our Birmingham Pro AM 2025 Krish Singh

There are many things that we know about Krish. These include what his favourite Egyptian God is; what his favourite autoimmune disease is; or even what his favourite line in a 2009 hit Lady Gaga song is. The answer to all of these is, of course, RA.

But equally, there are many things that we do not about this beautiful mysterious man. Such as how it is that despite having only recently started debating, he's already amassed a hugely impressive judging CV that spans continents, including chairing a Princeton Quarter, panelling an EUDC PDQ, and chairing the final of the Indo Pacific Pre ABP and Shri Ram Pre ABP.

But hes not just good at silently judging your arguments. He is also a menace when speaking, having broken at LSE IV, Osaka IV, Ed Cup, and Diliman IV.

Not satisfied with speaking and judging, he is now deciding to foray into the world of CAing, and if his knack for speaking and judging is anything to go by, we can be rest assured that he will do a fabulous job.

We are thrilled to host the Birmingham Pro-Am 2025 on January 25th-26th! 🗓️ This is set to be an exciting event, and we can’t wait to bring together debaters, adjudicators, and teams for what will be a fantastic weekend of competition..

Applications for Independent Adjudicators (IAs) are now open! IAs play a key role in judging debates and providing feedback, and we are looking for experienced individuals to join our Judging Ranks.

Team registration is officially open, and institution judges can also sign up now. If you’re representing a team or institution, make sure to register through the links in the event details!

🎉 Huge Congratulations to our Debating Teams at Southhampton Pro Am 2024

We’re thrilled to share the incredible achievements of both teams we sent to the competition, with a special shoutout to Yingying and Joseph for their amazing performance! Breaking 6th overall out of 42 teams, they came 1st in all 3/4 preliminary rounds and advanced to the Silver Final! 🥈

This marks our first break in a while, and what a way to do it! Yingying and Joseph have shown they’re well on their way to becoming debating pros

Our judge Jacob couldn’t contain his excitement—he literally screamed with joy when the break was announced!

Here’s to many more wins and milestones for the UoB Debating Society!
