We recently hosted our first ever BabyLab Retreat! 🎉✨

It featured a keynote talk by Andy Bagshaw [about neuromechanisms of sleep, epilepsy and attention in adults], followed by a series of wonderful talks from lab members about latest infant research 👶🔎

🎓 Congratulations to Dr. Alice Cousins on her PhD graduation! We are so proud to celebrate this milestone and wish her every success in the next stage of her career.

Earlier this month, members of the Birmingham BabyLab travelled to Panama City to attend the International Conference on Infant Studies (ICIS) 🌎✈️

It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to share their research and collaborate with colleagues around the world.

Professor Andy Bremner was involved in a symposia exploring the prenatal foundations of psychological development with great talks from Jessica Leov, Chiara Capparini, and Kirsty Dunn. He also presented recent work on using VR to better understand how babies develop a sense of their own bodies.

Our PhD researchers, Jieyi Liu and Rachel Martlew, also presented exciting findings from their doctoral research.

A huge thank you to all the presenters, organisers, and attendees for a great week in Panama City! 🎉

Our School is holding an annual Celebrating Research and Impact event this week. Babylab students and researchers are presenting their latest research. Here's Karthika telling about our latest results on how babies think about geometric shapes. Do babies have an intuitive sense of geometry that develops naturally during the first year of life ? 💜 Participating will be an fun and engaging experience for you and your baby, and we would love it if you could take part! Our studies typically involve a play session, watching cartoons or listening to sounds or stories.
🤩 Our research explores how babies perceive the world, change and learn during the first months of life. We hope that our results will help babies and children to thrive.
