What a day. The 1s booked their place in the Premier South for next season much to Clements’ delight as they beat Portsmouth in a cagey match. Norris won convincingly yet again in his 5th year of BUCS golf, whilst Carter lost in his final game for the uni. Ashton finished his uni golf career with a Seve like bunker shot on the 18th to halve his match, leading to roars from the crowd that could be heard from across the golf course. Roberto tuned his match around by winning the last 2 holes to win, whilst Toby’s brilliant form continued as he won his first game for the 1s. Storer unfortunately lost on the last, and Gaz won comfortably. Louis defeated his opponent on the last with a clutch putt to secure the 5.5-2.5 win. A big thanks to everyone who came down and supported the boys.

The 1s booked their place in the National Trophy win with a comfortable win over Surrey at the Drift (yes that is a name of a real golf club). UoB dominated the foursomes in the morning with Norris + Gaz, and Rob + Ollie winning convincingly. Ashton and Clements sealed the whitewash morning session down the 18th to give us a big lead going into the singles. In the afternoon, Gaz led from the front with a 7&6 win, before Ashton lost on the last against their +4 player (somehow off +4??). Norris confirmed the victory for the boys with yet another win. Clements won again down 18 to secure the 6-3 victory and send the 1s to the final at Woodhall Spa on the 23rd April where they’ll face either St Andrews or UCLan. Well done to the lads!

The 1s headed south to Exeter in the quarter final of the nationals hoping to extend their cup run. A 6:50am start at Dawlish was definitely less than ideal, and Norris + Gaz started slowly. Some good play from Exeter and missed putts from UoB meant the pair lost before the clock even hit 9am (must be some sort of record). Roberto and Clem battled hard in the middle pairing in a tight match, but lost on the 17th after some unfortunate luck on the back 9. Carter and Ollie gave UoB a chance with a battering in the final foursomes.
Several hours later the singles got underway with Ollie and Gaz leading UoB off. Exeter tried their best to guarantee a point by putting a 1s player in their team (what’s the point in rules??) but Ollie wasn’t having any of it. A birdie on the last secured his win, and well done to him for 2/2 points on the day. Gaz lost on the 18th after some questionable ruling from the Exeter boys. Roberto and Norris cruised to victories in the middle group, meaning only 1 point was needed from Clem or Carter. Carter started strong but faded towards the end and ultimately lost, but some Tiger-esque putting on the back 9 from Clem meant he turned his match around. An 8 foot par putt on the last was needed for the win, and it was interesting to see the Exeter players getting ready for the playoff (not sure if they can count). It was never in doubt for Clem and fair to say the Exeter boys (especially their 1s player) and their coach weren’t best pleased.
The 1s will travel to Surrey in the semi finals. Well done to the lads!

All 4 teams were in action this week as the 1s lost to Loughborough in the title decider. Well done to Carter on winning another game. The 1s still make the playoffs for the Premier division. The 2s travelled to Beedles but it wasn’t to be for Knowlesy in his final game, and it brings an end to his BUCS career. Well done to Ben for winning all 6 of his games this year, and Calum for halving. The 2s finish the season in 2nd but get promoted to Midlands Tier 1. The 3s went to Warwick with 5 players and still won confirming their 3rd place finish. Georgie won again continuing his good form. And it appears lightning strikes twice as Chappers and Mortimer both won in the same week. It brings to an end a questionable BUCS career for the latter, in which every blade of grass was covered across all courses. The 4s made the long journey to East Anglia with 4 players and almost got a draw. Well done to Stampy and Dilan for winning their games. It brings us to the end of the league phase of another seasons with many highs and lows for all teams. The 1s are in quarter final cup action next week where they travel to Cardiff or Exeter.

The final week of BUCS league fixtures is upon us, and the 1s and 2s have the chance to win their respective leagues. The 1s play Loughborough 2s yet again, with the winner of the match winning the league. Rob and Griff come into the team following their recent good form. The 2s travel to Loughborough and will be hoping for a similar result to when they last met each other. The 3s go to Warwick with Ruby and Handy coming into the team after their good wins. The 4s make the long journey to East Anglia hoping to end the season on a high. And finally good luck to Knowlsey and Mortimer who are playing in their final BUCS match
