Sunday Morning read 🏨

This week I had the pleasure of experiencing the new Marco Pierre White Restaurant at Holiday Inn Blackpool, an IHG Hotel It was a fab experience, the food was delicious and service warm and welcoming.

As we welcome Holiday Inn to the Blackpool fold I thought you might want to know more about this innovative brand.

Holiday Inn was a company that really started in the heyday of postwar family tourism, According to Professor Andrew Sandoval-strausz, this period of time saw the movement towards family holidays. The founder, Kemmons Wilson wanted to to create a standardised hotel chain so was born, Holiday Inn, which offered consistently clean rooms and a pool for the kids, became an instant hit, with more than 100 of them popping up before 1960.
Today’s Holiday Inn is very different from the one of Wilson’s era, when unmarried couples could not book rooms and clergymen were on call to provide spiritual counseling for guests. As the company evolved from a new, hot commodity into a legacy brand, its hotels aged and many grew outdated.

“As with any brand, you have to keep it fresh and relevant,” Solomons says. “We’d almost taken Holiday Inn a little for granted.”

Fast forward to 2024, Holiday Inn operator Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has reported a surge in revenues for the first quarter of 2024, with significant growth in Europe and Asia fuelling the rise.

The hotel giant, which also manages Crowne Plaza among other brands, has been on an expansion spree, launching over 6,200 rooms in 46 new hotels. This marks an 11% increase in room openings compared to the same period last year.
The Holiday Inn Blackpool, managed by RBH Hospitality Management, is council-owned and is part of the city’s wider regeneration project, Talbot Gateway, developed by Muse Places in partnership with Blackpool Council.

The development is conveniently placed off the side of the train station, offering a central hub for both business and leisure guests arriving in Blackpool.
