At last nights lodge meeting we had ten visitors witness one of our brethren raised to the degree of a MM. We also welcomed the newly installed master of our mother lodge of Brighouse, I must say it was a relaxed night both in the temple and the FB, we hope everyone enjoyed the evening, especially our visitors.

We kicked off 2024 with a second degree ceremony, a really enjoyable night with 16 visitors including the PGM in an unofficial visit. It will be the last time we use the Temple as circumstances dictate we move to the ground floor of the rooms at the end of January, I’d like to think we went out with a bang, and were helped in great style by all our visitors.

We’ve just returned from our annual sojourn for Remembrance Weekend, this year 18 of us travelled to the Sheraton Hotel in Blackpool, and what a weekend it was , great company, great entertainment and great food. We parked the cars up Friday and took to the trams, visited Fleetwood, Blackpool and attended the Remembrance Service Sunday, the cenotaph being dedicated in 1923, so a special day. The weather was kind until 1015 Sunday morning when the rain came, but undeterred along with hundreds of other people we watched a brilliant service, we were definitely ready for the warm cafe and hot chocolate that followed. Sunday night we attended a show at Funny Girls near the North Pier great fun lots of laughs and very entertaining. I personally am glad I’m retired gives me time to get over was a very hectic but fantastic weekend, those of us who went have already booked our rooms for next
year!

We had a great Old English Night yesterday. After the work in the temple, along with 14 visitors we enjoyed a lively festive board, with great banter, great food, and great company, making a good amount for charity along the way.

Brother Andy Hill of Rastrick Lodge and two of his work colleagues are undertaking a Three Countries, Four Lakes Challenge - Over 100km Paddling For the British Heart Foundation in August this year, both Andy and one of his colleagues have lost loved ones to heart failure.

I’ll let Andy explain:

“We are raising money for the British Heart Foundation and we'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us all that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist.

This challenge was originally going to be "the three lakes challenge," taking in the three biggest lakes in mainland UK. Lake Bala in Wales, Lake Windermere in England and Loch Awe in Scotland.

However, as we wanted to really push ourselves we threw in Loch Ness for good measure to take us over 100km of paddling in four days.

This challenge is a very real test of endurance and motivation, paddling Great Britain's biggest lakes.

Three colleagues from Profile, Chris McKay, Paul Sopp and my good self (Andy Hill) will complete this challenge, self supported, paddling individual kayaks and driving between each lake challenge and wild camping overnight.

Well... it adds to the fatigue, cuts cost and means even more pennies will get to our chosen charity “

We wish Andy and his colleagues all the best with their challenge, and I’ll keep you updated with their progress
