Please join Ukrainian communities around the world in lighting a candle today at 5 p.m. to remember all those affected by the war in Ukraine.
Today marks 1000 days since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Those 1000 days changed the world as we knew it. They brought more grief and loss to our beloved motherland than the previous 80 years since WWII.
It is difficult to find words to describe the tragedy of this war: unprovoked, unfair, cruel, and ruthless.
It is hard to measure the tragedy of every single Ukrainian in the world. How to see and feel the pain and sacrifice of those who fought, those who were lost in action, who became POWs, those who lost their health on the battlefield, those who lost their loved ones, and those who live in everyday fear of such loss, those who were killed and injured during air raids, those who lost their homes and everything they got in life, those who fleed their homes, those who see the enemy soldiers walking along the streets of their beloved cities and villages and living in constant fear, those who were kidnapped and forced to live in enemy country, those whose kids were kidnapped. These 1000 days provided numerous examples of Ukrainians' extraordinary bravery and resilience, as well as the incredible support and kindness of all people of goodwill around the world.
On behalf of the Ukrainian community of Brighton and Hove, Stand For Ukraine Brighton and Hove want to thank the city for its extraordinary support during this dark time. Although we are unsure of when the war will end, we think that by working together, we can make a huge difference for those affected by this long war.
