Staying on campus over the winter vacation?

Our opening hours are:
22 December - 23 December: 10am-5pm, self service
24 December - 26 December: Closed
27 December - 31 December: 10am-5pm, self service
1 January: Closed
2 January: 10am-5pm, self service
3 January - 4 January: 9am-9pm

The Student Centre will be open 24 hours throughout the minimum service period.

Our opening hours are changing ✨

The Library's new opening hours will be 8am-midnight Monday-Friday and 9am-9pm Saturday and Sunday throughout term, apart from assessment period where we will be open 24 hours.

The Student Centre will be reopening as a 24/7 building for all your late night studying needs, with improvements including bookable rooms and laptop loans, and all of the existing facilities such as a kitchen and easy level access via the main entrance.

This isn't quite the most 90s photo we have in our collections, but it's certainly close.

Our Documents & Ephemera collection began in the late 1960s as an innovation in which the librarians at Sussex deliberately set out to collect material beyond the normal range of an academic library which reflected contemporary events and concerns.

From Monday 4 August to Friday 8 August the current Library access gates will be replaced. Due to this there will be increased noise, including drilling noise, and dust at the front of the building, but access to the Library will be maintained at all times. The quieter, step-free entrance will also be open as usual.
Replacing these life-expired gates will make accessing the Library easier for our users, including all lanes being wheelchair accessible.

At the end of this month, from 21 July to 3 August, important work will be done to make the Library building more accessible by widening the step-free entrance next to IDS.

In order to achieve this, the step-free entrance must be temporarily closed while the work is carried out.

We will ensure that Library services remains accessible to all over this period. The front entrance to the Library will remain open, and for those who cannot access the building via this route, we will provide:

• Book collection service,
• Book delivery service,
• Entry to the building through the accessible staff entrance. This can be organised in advance by emailing [email protected] or arranged on arrival.

Online resources and support will continue to be available including our chat service and bookable 1-2-1’s for study support, which can be delivered remotely.

The University of Sussex Library will be temporarily closed to external reference and college student members on weekdays before 6pm from Tuesday 6th May to Friday 23rd May to accommodate our annual assessment period.

Existing reference and college members are very welcome to use the Library after 6pm on weekdays and at any time over the weekends.

We will not be processing new membership applications in these categories for the entire month of May, either online or in-person.

Alumni, external borrowing and SCONUL members will not be affected.

We're happy to again be hosting Women at Sussex, this year celebrating our inspirational Early Career Researchers, curated by Elizabeth Rendon-Morales.

Come to the Open Learning Space on the ground floor of the Library between 5 and 31 March to see the portraits and read some inspiring words shared by the women in the exhibition.

The original colour scheme of the Library was very 60's, with bright coloured chairs and curtains in red and purple.
