University of Sussex Department of Education The Department of Education is located within the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex in Brighton.

We offer a diverse range of courses, from undergraduate through to PhDs and were rated 10th in the UK for Education by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Education Guide 2021. The Department specialises in initial teacher education, offering three routes to QTS in a wide range of subjects - and also a Primary and Early Years BA through which students can also gain QTS. Much of our strength

and success comes from our strong partnerships with local schools. Our faculty are renowned experts in the area of childhood and youth - BA and MA courses available - and in international education for which we offer an MA and a PhD. We also offer CPD for qualified teachers. We are a particularly cosmopolitan department with a wide range of national and international students.

🎓 Black African women from the diaspora are graduating from UK universities in growing numbers, yet far less attention has been paid to how they understand their own knowledge, their academic voice and their place in conversations within institutions that continue to hold significant global authority.

💡 📚 💪 'Re-centring Black African Women in Higher Education as Producers of Knowledge' invites Black African women from the diaspora who are approaching graduation - or have recently graduated from a UK university - across any discipline to reflect on how they have engaged with academic knowledge, understood their own intellectual authority, and positioned themselves as intellectual actors within higher education.
