I kept a journal throughout out my time in foster care and it was invaluable throughout the different phases.

I have stacks of notebooks from over a decade of journalling and there have been so benefits. I could list tons, but here are 5 major benefits of journalling:

1. It clears your head.
When you can’t talk about something, it’s easier to write it down and get it out of your head that way.

2. It improves problem solving.
Paper can help you gain objectivity and see your life from a bird’s eye view, which helps you solve problems.

3. Emotional regulation.
Journalling can help you deal with strong emotions that occur as part of the ebbs and flows of life.

4. It captures memories.
Writing down how you feel at significant moments in life can be fun or enlightening to read back years later.

5. Helps with planning.
When you have a lot to get done, journalling can help you gain clarity on what to prioritise.

What is your experience with journaling?
